Job description
Art Specialist Location Richmond, VA : The Art Specialist will facilitate art activities for patients of all ages in clinical settings. Plans and executes art activities for patients in group settings and individually at bedside throughout the health system. Works with healthcare providers by delivering art activities that promote emotional, psychological, and physical well-being to their patients. Maintains equipment and art supplies. Assists the Manager with the installation and coordination of art exhibitions throughout the health system; maintains permanent collection by accessioning and inventorying all artwork across the health system. Installs and removes artwork in common areas and offices; and assisting hospital departments in designing and installing displays and special promotions.
Essential Job Statements
Develops and facilitates art activities with patients of all ages and across the health system for patients in group settings and individually in the clinical environment. Partners with care team to deliver art activities that promote emotional, psychological, and physical well-being. Maintains equipment and art supplies.
Installs and maintains art exhibitions, accessions, inventories, and maintains artwork for the permanent collection, installs and removes artwork in common areas and offices and assists hospital departments in the design and installation of displays and special promotions. Position may be responsible for transporting art collection to various health system locations utilizing company vehicle.
Assists the Manager with digital illustration and design of departmental promotional materials and providing written and verbal response to inquiries regarding the operation of the department.
Assists the Department of Equity and Inclusion in the planning and delivery of cultural performing arts programs and performances.
Assists the Manager in selection process and procurement of new artwork for hospital environment. Consults with various Department Managers to continuously enhance aesthetics and decor.
Oversee the Arts in Healthcare-advised Virginia Commonwealth University student organizations to schedule and oversee various art and music offerings in the hospital environment
Oversee the Arts in Healthcare-designated student and adult volunteers to support department activities and needs.
Ensure responsibility and visible commitment of diversity equity and inclusion programs/initiatives through collaboration and implementation of initiatives across the health
Performs other duties as assigned and/or participates in special projects to support the mission of VCUHS and the Department of Arts in Healthcare.

Employment Qualifications
Required Education:
High School Diploma or equivalent
Preferred Education:
Bachelor's degree in fine art, Art Education, Museum Studies, or related field from an accredited program
Licensure/Certification Required:
Active Virginia Driver's License; violation-free driving record
Licensure/Certification Preferred:
Minimum Qualifications
Years and Type of Required Experience
Minimum of three (3) years' work experience in fine art and design
Minimum of three (3) years' work experience in art education
Minimum of three (3) years' experience with digital graphic design programs (Photoshop, Adobe, etc.)

Required to car travel to off-site locations, occasionally in adverse weather conditions.
