Abonmarche is seeking a GIS Map Maker in our Kalamazoo, MI office.
Job Summary:
The GISCartographer\Analyst\Map Maker coordinates the creation and maintains quality control of cartographic and other illustrations for project managers. This individual performs spatial analyses of data and creates spatial analytical graphics using geographic information systems and other digital methods.
Responsibilities:
- Creates maps, graphs, and other illustrations and maintains their quality control for various projects and technical reports.
- Creates, records, and/or digitally extracts geospatial or statistical data from a variety of sources and performs spatial analysis on the data.
- Consults and advises project managers regarding data display and spatial data analysis; also consults and advises regarding cartographic production time/cost estimates and the quality control of report graphics.
- Edits, revises, updates, and/or corrects independently reviewed data, client-reviewed maps, data, or illustrations; further refines analytical graphics for analysis.
- Coordinates printing production of maps and technical reports with editor and printer.
- Consults and advises project managers and field crews regarding field mapping strategies and techniques.
- Maintains and updates a map library for the assigned operating unit.
- Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Education:
- Bachelor's Degree in Geography or Computer Science preferred.
Licensure/Certification/Registration:
Work Experience/Qualifications:
- 5+ years of directly related experience preferred.
- Knowledge of sources and various methods of manual and digital extraction of geospatial data.
- Ability to provide technical advice and guidance to staff in area of specialty.
- Knowledge of spatial and statistical analytical methods and tools.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to utilize basic graphical representation techniques to clearly visualize data.
- Ability to supervise and train assigned staff.
- Ability to track multiple projects and estimate production times and costs.
- Ability to create, update, and modify detailed geographic maps.
- Knowledge of basic cartographic methods and techniques.
- Ability to develop new cartographic methods and techniques to meet specific needs.
- Proficiency in utilizing Esri products, including ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Enterprise, and ArcGIS Online Knowledge of field data collection and survey procedures relating to site mapping strategies and methods.
- Knowledge of Water and Sewer utilities principles.
- Knowledge of best practices for utility records management.
- Proficiency in Autodesk, Bentley, or other Computer Aided Design products.
