GENERAL FUNCTION
The Assistant General Counsel -- Litigation will support all divisions of EssilorLuxottica’s business, manage a wide variety of commercial litigation in North America, and serve as a critical liaison between outside counsel and internal clients. This position will report to the Associate General Counsel, Litigation & Regulatory, North America, based on in Mason, OH
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage all phases of litigation for EssilorLuxottica’s North American business, including case management, motion practice, implementing legal holds, coordinating and conducting discovery, insurance coverage coordination, and settlement strategy for a variety of subject matters such as commercial, general liability, professional liability, regulatory, IP, product liability, real estate, franchise, competition, and class actions
- Select and engage counsel and establish and manage budgets
- Serve as liaison between outside counsel and clients to ensure effective and efficient representation of the Company
- Manage e-discovery process, including internal collection and processing of information as well as working with internal e-Discovery team, external law firms and e-discovery vendors
- Prepare reports of pending litigation and recommend accruals, as needed
- Analyze and advise clients on legal obligations, risks, and potential liabilities, and negotiate resolutions of litigated and non-litigated disputes
- Respond to demand letters, subpoenas, and government inquiries
- Identify potential litigation risks and trends and counsel on how to mitigate exposure
- Assess and, as needed, assert the Company's coverage, indemnification, and recovery rights
- Advise and counsel internal clients on a wide variety of legal issues related to the Company’s business and operations, including partnering with other legal groups (such as privacy, real estate, contracts, and IP) to support their risk assessments and collaborate on strategic projects
- Support EssilorLuxottica's global subsidiaries in litigation outside of North America
- Supervise work of junior litigation counsel and litigation paralegals
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- JD from an accredited law school and excellent academic background
- Licensed to practice law in Ohio or another state
- Minimum 8 years of relevant experience with private law firm or corporate legal department (or a combination thereof) in commercial litigation
- Superior writing, communication, and research skills
- Organized and detail oriented
- Ability to interact with all levels and all lines of business and clients
- Motivated, self-starter
- Ability to work independently, yet collaborate effectively with other attorneys, paralegals, and business partners
- Flexible and able to think on feet
- Ability to adapt to constantly shifting priorities, and allocate resources appropriately
- Experience negotiating fee arrangements
- Substantial experience with e-discovery, including work with technical resources and vendors, and records management
- Clear communicator with the ability to break down complex issues into practical advice
- Outgoing and friendly personality, with a good sense of humor

- Class action, IP, and international experience
- Project management training
- Retail industry experience
Employee pay is determined by multiple factors, including geography, experience, qualifications, skills and local minimum wage requirements.
