Role Description
This is a full-time contract at-will role with possible extensions and opportunity for advancement into a unionized Internal Organizer position located in Stanford, CA. The Internal Organizer will be responsible for supporting and organizing workers to build power and win better wages, benefits, and working conditions. The Internal Organizer will also work with staff and members to build diverse and inclusive teams, develop leadership skills, and engage in collective bargaining.
Areas of Responsibility
- Identifying, recruiting, developing and mobilizing leaders in strategic, sustained, meaningful ways;
- Engaging in one-on-one persuasion, inoculation, assessment and motivation of unorganized workers at the worksite, in meetings, on the phone, and on home visits as necessary;
- Planning and carrying out various actions;
- Knowing and Understanding the Contract and the Grievance process and the follow-thru of what it takes to see this task to the end;
- Organizing recording processes and the importance of note-taking for all purposes of documentation;
- Developing and carrying out campaign work plans;
- Developing work issue campaigns based on group issues and coordinating the representational work of stewards;
- Organizing, coordinating, and supporting union political, contract, organizing, and issue campaigns;
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Strong commitment to social justice and worker rights
- Knowledge of organizing and campaign strategies, including political and legislative;
- Experience with labor unions or other worker organizations
- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse groups of people;
- Ability to work respectfully, independently and collaboratively with union leadership as well as employer in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
- Relevant experience in labor relations, organizational development, or related fields
- Experience with collective bargaining, grievance handling, and contract administration preferred
- Knowledge of California labor laws and regulations preferred
- Fluency in Spanish or other languages a plus
Pay and Compensation
This position is hourly starting at $23/hr., without benefits.
