Job Summary

The role of this position is to provide mental health screening and direct services for patients enrolled in the Wraparound program and their families, assist with referral to treatment for violently injured patients treated at UC Davis Medical Center, and contribute to the development and implementation of peer support and recovery strategies for violently injured patients treated at UC Davis Medical Center.

Minimum Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications

Certification as a Violence Prevention Professional preferred

Experience working with Hospital Based Violence Intervention Programs (HVIP) or equivalent.

Experience providing mental health services in health care or hospital and community settings.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; verbal, written and listening. Ability to work diplomatically with a wide variety of people. Ability to convey instructions, directions, and information appropriately and accurately. Ability to work as a team member. Ability to communicate and interact effectively with children and their caregivers.

Ability to prioritize, organize and execute a variety of concurrent activities, set realistic goals and objectives, plan ahead and meet deadlines without compromising quality.

Ability to conceptualize clinical situations and demonstrate application of theory in case management and psychotherapeutic responsibilities.

Ability to successfully manage conflict.

Ability to apply cultural humility standards to clinical care.

Knowledge of community resources in the Sacramento Region

Department Description

The Trauma Prevention Program is within the UC Davis Medical Center Patient Care Services department. The Trauma Prevention Program reports to the Trauma Program Manager with a mission to prevent and reduce the leading causes of injury in the surrounding community in accordance with the American College of Surgeons Trauma Center Verification, Review, and Consultation Standards. The Wraparound Violence Intervention Program, within the Trauma Prevention Program, is a service for hospital patients ages 13-26 years who were injured by violence. The program supports long-term recovery of violently injured patients after hospital discharge.

Special Requirements

  • Full time in-person in the Trauma Prevention Program office in the Broadway building

  • Frequent visits to the hospital inpatient setting

  • This position is a critical position and subject to a background check and drug screen. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of background investigation including criminal history, identity checks and drug screen.

  • As a condition of employment, you will be required to comply with the University of California Policy on Vaccination Programs , as may be amended or revised from time to time. Federal, state, or local public health directives may impose additional requirements.

  • Frequent travel to non-UCD settings in the Sacramento Region, including community agencies and patient homes.
