Division/Department Information

The Counselor Education department within the School of Education at St. John's University is seeking applicants for a contract clinical faculty member beginning in fall of 2024. The School of

Education offers doctoral degree (i.e., Ed.D. and Ph.D.) programs and 43 master's degree programs that accommodate career changers, field changers, and those who seek expertise and/or certification in the areas of Adolescent Education, Childhood Education, Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Early Childhood Education, Literacy, School Building Leadership, School Counseling, Special Education, and TESOL. Our programs are designed to be flexible, with online and traditional schedules.

The Counselor Education department currently offers two M.S.Ed. programs, in Clinical Mental Health Counseling (CMHC) and School Counseling (SCH). The department also offers two advanced certificates in SCH and CMHC. Courses are offered on our Queens campus and online during evening hours to accommodate working professionals. All master's programs are accredited by the Council on the Accreditation of Counseling and Related Education Programs (CACREP), and approved for the graduate student option by the National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC). The MSEd in SCH meets New York state education requirements for initial certification as a School Counselor. The MSEd in CMHC meets New York state education requirements for the limited permit in License in Mental Health Counseling (LMHC), as well as the Credentialed Alcohol and Substance Use Counselor in Training (CASAC-T). Responsibilities

The department is seeking a contract faculty member to serve as a Contract Clinical Instructor/Clinical Assistant Professor - Field Placement Coordinator for both our school and clinical mental health counseling programs. The faculty member will have responsibilities in teaching in either/or both programs and will coordinate the field placement process for students in both programs. The faculty member should have a demonstrated professional network within the counseling community of the New York City metropolitan area, Long Island, and beyond. The faculty member will have a strong Counselor identity, be familiar with CACREP standards, and have a commitment to maintaining both our Counselor identity and CACREP accreditation. Faculty should have active engagement and networking with the profession, at either the local, state, or national level.

Faculty member responsibilities include teaching courses in either/or both SCH and CMHC programs, as well as coordinating field placement efforts in both programs. Clinical faculty will teach four-four course load, with the option of teaching summer for an additional compensation. Field coordination duties are encompassed within the teaching load (e.g., two instructional/didactic courses and two courses of placement-coordination/advising per semester). The faculty member will teach on both the Queens campus and online, and will be required to complete training in online instruction. They will be required to keep office hours, participate in committees, and attend meetings/events on the Queens campus. This is not a remote position. The faculty member will utilize technology to support our students, programs, and administration; specifically, they will seek to maximize technology to streamline the field placement process, supervisor databases, field work monitoring, and evaluation. The faculty member will support the department during accreditation and audits by providing field placement data outcomes, and recording field placement data per NYS requirement.
