Job description
We are looking for a Civil Design Technician to join our fast growing Rogers, AR Engineering team. You will work with our team of Engineers to convert designs into technical plans. Responsibilities include gathering drawings and specifications, calculating material and equipment requirements and setting up production methods. If you have hands-on experience with computer-aided design (CAD) software and are familiar with building processes, we’d like to meet you. Ultimately, you’ll help us build functional, secure and well-designed sites that meet our clients needs.
Responsibilities
- Calculate dimensions, weight limitations and requirements in materials.
- Complete drainage calculations for storm sewer design, hydraulic systems, detention ponds, water quality measures, etc.
- Design site development projects including layout, water retention, utility, elevation, grading, and drainage plans.
- Independently address and correct redlines and plan revisions.
- Research and review ordinances, technical reports, municipal, state, and federal codes to ensure compliance.
- Communicate with city, county, and state entities to ensure all requirements are met.
- Collaborate with your Project Engineer, Assistant Engineer, Project Coordinator as well as other Engineer teams to provide status updates, discuss challenges, and address plan revisions.
- Evaluate surveys, field notes, maps, aerial photographs, and other materials to identify potential project constraints to determine the best approach in developing and completing projects on time and on budget.
- Create detailed designs with Civil 3D and AutoCAD.
- Design diagrams, maps and layouts to illustrate workflow.
- Identify potential operational issues and redesign products to improve functionality.
- Ensure final designs comply with regulations and quality standards.
- Attend planning meetings when needed.
Requirements
- BS in Engineering, landscape architecture, degree from a technical college, or comparable work experience
- Thorough understanding of Civil 3D and AutoCAD
- Knowledge of HEC-RAS is a plus
- Capable of using Microsoft Office products
- Knowledge of hydrology and hydraulics for putting together drainage reports
- Ability to work individually and among teams
- Ability to communicate with a variety of professionals clearly and effectively, including colleagues and clients
- Punctual with project deadlines
- Ability to project manage
- 3+ years of relevant CAD design experience strongly preferred
- Willingness to learn new skills and products
- Proven work experience as a Civil Designer or similar role
- Hands-on experience with computer-aided design (CAD) software
- Familiarity with 3D modeling tools
- Additional certification from the American Design Drafting Association (ADDA) is a plus
