GENERAL PURPOSE Under the direction of the Director of Student Access and Opportunity , the Coordinator of Fine and Performing Arts provides leadership in the development, implementation and coordination of the school district's fine arts curriculum and professional growth opportunities. The Fine Arts Coordinator serves as a content specialist and resource for school administrators and teachers, grades K-12 countywide.
MAIN JOB TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES Develop teaching strategies and resource materials to implement curriculum
- Annually monitor and update Safety in the Art Room manual for art teachers K-12.
- Develop and review budget requests for K-12 art and music.
- Coordinate and administer art supplies, piano tuning, band instrument repair and art equipment repair bids.
- Assist with Governor's School and FOCUS art selection process.
- Work with individuals and committees on problems of content and other issues related to fine arts, collaborate with coordinators and supervisors to integrate and/or align the Fine Arts program with the total instructional program and recommend ways in which the curriculum can be adjusted to meet the special learning needs of exceptional children.
- Work with building principals to improve the quality of fine arts instruction at their schools, provide new teachers orientation in the content areas, assist in offering staff development opportunities in the areas of art and music and perform classroom visitations and consultations.
- Seek and Facilitate grant applications through the Virginia Commission for the Arts for Teacher Incentive grants, Technical Assistance grants, Artist-in-Residency grants and Curriculum Development grants to augment county resources for programs and to administer any programs for which grant money is received.
- Coordinate and supervise a variety of state and local fine art related activities and events, e.g., Countywide Fine Arts Festival, All-County Middle School Band, etc.
Represent, where appropriate, the school division in the work of regional, state, and/or national curriculum associations and study groups
- Serve as chairperson of the art and music curriculum committees and update the K-12 art and music curriculums as needed.
- Represent Stafford County Schools at the Kennedy Center Arts Council, VAEA, VMEA, the Virginia Fine Arts Leadership Coalition, the Virginia Commission for the Arts and the Department of Education.
- Work with architects and planning directors to design art and music facilities for new construction and renovation and recommend necessary equipment and supplies.
- Serve as chairperson on Art and Music Textbook Adoption Committees.
- Develop partnerships with state colleges for professional development opportunities for graduate work and staff development.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE - Master's degree in the field of fine arts
- Hold or be eligible for a Virginia postgraduate professional license with an endorsement in fine arts.
- Have significant training and teaching experience in fine arts education.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES - Knowledge
- Maintain current knowledge of developments in curriculum and staff development in the fine arts.
- Current issues, trends and practices in fine arts education.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS - Work environment is primarily inside but could be subject to extreme weather conditions, with moderate noise, temperatures that are subject to weather conditions, and no exposure to chemicals or other negative air quality elements.
- The work is moderate work, requiring exertion of up to 50 pounds of force to move or lift objects.
