Job Summary
UT Southwestern is in search of a Licensed Electrician to join their Electric Shop team. The licensed electrician works under general supervision to provide professional journeyman electrician-level skills for inspecting, testing, repairing, installing, and assisting with major electrical repairs within UT Southwestern facilities.
Experience and Education Requirements
- High school graduation, vocational school, or GED equivalent.
- Four (4) years skilled or journeyman level experience as an Electrician.
- Must have current licensure as a Journeyman Electrician issued by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR).
Job Duties
- Repairs, installs, replaces, and tests electrical circuits, equipment, and appliances, using hand tools and testing instruments, to supply electrical power for lighting and operation of equipment and apparatus.
- Inspects and tests electrical circuits and equipment; isolates defects in wiring, switches, motors, and other equipment, replacing defective wiring, switches, sockets, plugs, and insulators.
- Installs new wiring and electrical apparatus, using blueprints and diagrams to determine correct location and layout; runs wire through conduit, and makes connections to complete circuits.
- Assembles, installs, and connects components of switchboards and distribution panels, and connects to units controlled.
- Assists in estimating time and materials required for job.
- Troubleshoots and maintains all lighting circuits on campus.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Work requires skill in the use of ammeters, ohmmeters, voltmeters, watt meters, wiring diagrams and other tools common to electrical trade.
- Work requires the ability to plan and perform unusual and difficult assignments and needs to make decisions involving use of considerable ingenuity, initiative, and/or judgment.
- Work requires alertness and close attention to detail to avoid serious injury to self and others.
- Work requires proficiency in all phases of work performed.
- Work requires walking, bending, climbing, lifting up to 50 lbs., pulling/pushing equipment up to 50 lbs.
