Job description
Thriving consumer wellness product company is seeking an Accounting Manager at their national headquarters in Los Angeles. The company is a significant entity of a $60bill publicly traded global consumer products company. The GL Accounting Manager will report to the Assistant Controller and play a vital role in the accounting department, acting as the driver of daily operations of the accounting team, while simultaneously producing the highest quality work in achieving the departments overall goals for the company.
This position requires a strong understanding of GAAP, financial close, and audit compliance.
Functions:
- Monitor daily Sales postings for all avenues and troubleshooting & resolving integration errors.
- Monitoring Customer rebate coding, accounting treatment and analyzing actual vs accrued trade deductions.
- Lead components of the financial close process, ensuring that all financial transactions are recorded accurately and timely in accordance with US GAAP as well as analyzing and reviewing financial statements and variances.
- Perform month-end general ledger close activities including accruing expenses, preparing, reviewing and recording journal entries, reconciling general ledger and sub-ledger accounts and other analysis.
- Prepare accurate, complete, and timely financial statements in accordance with GAAP including co-ordination of deadlines and deliverables.
- Prepare, review, and analyze balance sheet and income statement account reconciliations.
- Work closely with financial planning & analysis team on reporting efforts and monthly accruals related to budgeting and forecasting.
- Creating and maintaining the SOP on processes example Sales posting and troubleshooting errors, deduction coding, process improvements etc.
- Manage and mentor General Ledger Accountants and oversee the day-to-day activities of the team, including review of and assistance with journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Provide accounting leadership on significant accounting transactions.
- Lead, support, and develop the accounting team while driving efficiency & automation to keep up with the demands of the high-growth business.
- Work with Controller, senior management, and accounting team on special projects, workflow process improvements, and special reporting requests.
- Collaborate with other members of the accounting team to support department objectives.
- Identify areas for improvement in accounting processes and implement changes to improve effectiveness and efficiency.
- Drive team efficiencies through collaboration with the Technology department and/or third-party providers to automate manual processes.
- Perform technical research, as needed, regarding handling of accounting and reporting transactions in accordance with GAAP.
- Assist the Controller with annual compliance deadlines and filings (Direct and indirect tax).
- Prepare schedules and reports to assist with annual external audit and tax provision.
- Support and maintain documentation of accounting department’s policies, procedures, and deadlines.
- Implement internal controls and best practices.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting; CPA, CGMA or CMA a plus.
- 5+ years of accounting experience in CPG environment (preferred) or public accounting experience, including 2+ in a supervisory role.
- Demonstrated understanding of full cycle accounting and its impact on financial statements.
- Thorough understanding and ability to apply US GAAP and tax regulations for CPG accounting.
- Experience with Microsoft Dynamics or similar ERP system preferred.
- Advanced Excel skills (VLOOKUP, SUMIFS, Pivot Tables, Advanced Formulas).
- Strong communication, interpersonal, team building and organizational skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with people at all levels of the organization and make actionable recommendations.
- Flexibility to work under time constraints and deadlines.
- High aptitude & proven ability to drive assigned responsibilities to their successful conclusion with minimal supervision.
- Ability to manage and protect confidential data, information and planning.
