About the Department:
The Higher Education Program (HEP), located within the College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHSS), prepares students for positions of leadership in teaching, research, and administration at two-year and four-year colleges and universities around the world as well as for positions in associations, government agencies, and industries whose activities relate to or impact higher education. The interdisciplinary, graduate-level curriculum focuses on leadership, the scholarship of teaching and learning, student affairs, administration, technology, and assessment.
About the Position:
Full-time postdoctoral research fellow for a research project sponsored by the National Science Foundation. The research project, titled Advancing Collaborations for Equity in Marine and Climate Sciences (ACE-MCS), examines what processes are employed for developing equity-driven and anti-racist educational collaborations, infrastructures, and pathways in marine and climate science. This research project will investigate the Woods Hole Collaborative Network (WHCN), a multi-organizational collaboration between six predominantly white institutions located in Woods Hole, Massachusetts. The research team will emphasize Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) storytelling and standpoint centering through qualitative inquiry alongside organizational and historical analysis to develop a replicable and scalable model for equity-centered support in STEM collaborations. The fellow will be responsible for qualitative data collection and analysis of interviews, network maps, and documents; the development of data visualizations to demonstrate the factors associated with anti-racist organizational networks and collaborations; and will participate in project dissemination. The fellow will assist principal investigators in training and development of doctoral graduate research assistants.
The position requires travel to Woods Hole, MA for six days in the summer to collect data. All other work can be conducted either on the George Mason University Fairfax campus or remotely, if a remote work option is requested and approved.
