General Summary of Position

Medstar Health is looking for an Orthopedic Technician to join our team! We are looking for someone with excellent communication skills to make a difference on our patients' care team.


The Orthopedic Technician will provide care for patients with orthopedic conditions. Provides technical assistance in the management of patients who require traction, casts, braces, or other external orthopedic hardware. Maintains the orthopedic equipment and requisitions supplies.

Primary Duties:
Applies, modifies, and removes casts, splints, braces, etc. Fabricates, adjusts, and removes orthopedic devices, using appropriate tools and instruments. Applies mobilization and immobilization devices. Initiates prevention of iatrogenic complications with orthopedic equipment.
Assesses patients in traction and patients with casts, splints, braces, or other external orthopedic apparatus. Performs dressing change and removal of sutures, staples, Steinmann pins, and wires.
Assists physician in setting up and applying skeletal traction. Assists physicians in the application of traction and casts. Reviews X-rays and X-ray reports. Assist physician in providing appropriate orthopedic technical care.
Evaluates orthopedic soft goods such as cervical collars, immobilizers, and cast materials; makes recommendations for purchase and use.
Processes charges for orthopedic equipment and inventories orthopedic equipment. Maintains and stocks orthopedic equipment including the traction cart.


Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED.
Basic Life Support (BLS).
