Introduction

The Department of Health Services (DHS), Wisconsin Resource Center (WRC) is recruiting for an Employee Health Nurse. This position will work 24 hours per week, with daytime hours.

WRC is a secure treatment facility that specializes in treating individuals with severe mental health conditions from the Wisconsin Department of Corrections. This facility is located on Lake Winnebago with beautiful walking paths by the lake for employees to use during break periods.

Position Summary

As the Employee Health Nurse, you will provide independent nursing services to employees at WRC. You will be a member of the WRC Health & Safety/Infection Prevention Committee. Additional duties include:

• Overall facility responsibility for assurance that all aspects of employee health and safety are effectively implemented.,
• Maintaining compliance with NCCHC, CDC and OSHA standards of practice.
• Compiling and analyzing infection prevention data for preparing reports and making recommendations for improving employee health services and the infection prevention program.
• Reviewing, updating and communicating the OSHA Exposure Control Plan.
• Providing training to multi-disciplinary staff.
• Authoring and advising on employee and visitor health and safety and infection prevention policies and procedures based on current evidence based Public Health, Occupational Health and Infection Prevention principles.

Salary Information

The starting pay is $45.00 to $48.64 per hour, plus excellent benefits. A 12-month probationary period is required.

Pay for current or former state employees is set based upon the rules that apply to compensation for the applicable transaction. This position is classified as a Nursing Specialist and is pay schedule and range 11/02.

Job Details

All applicants who may be appointed to this position will be required to allow DHS to conduct a background check to determine whether the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job being filled.

All appointees will be required to receive a TB test, which will be administered by WRC or medical personnel approved by the facility within 30 days of the start date.

DHS does not sponsor work visas for this position, thus, in compliance with federal law, selected candidates will be required to verify eligibility to work in the United States by completing the required I-9 form upon hire.

Qualifications

Minimally qualified applicants will have all of the following:

• Licensure, or eligible for licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Wisconsin. Eligible is defined as: currently registered as a professional nurse in another state and are eligible to work in WI and are eligible to obtain licensure in WI. Licensure must be obtained by time of appointment.
• Experience working as a Registered Nurse.
• Experience with workplace health and safety requirements.

Well-qualified applicants will also have one or more of the following:

• Experience with employee health, infection prevention or adult education.
• Certified as an Occupational Health Nurse.
• Experience or certification with the National Commission on Correctional Health Care Standards.
• Experience with worker’s compensation or OSHA regulations.
