Job Summary:
The HRIS Assistant position processes changes and helps maintain the data integrity of the Human Resource Information System (HRIS). Responsible for the input, review and processing of State Appointment Requests (SAR), miscellaneous personnel changes, and employee separations utilizing Upstate's HRMS system. Applies acquired knowledge of SUNY, Civil Service, OSC, and SUNY Upstate to compile and process requests timely and appropriately. Oversees and coordinates NYS line number assignments for State positions; monitors and follows up independently, or with other staff as needed, on items associated with expiration dates (e.g., temp. positions, classified service temp. appointments, also-receives compensation, etc.). Responsible for data input and maintenance of position and person information for SUNY HR and NYS Dept of Civil Service (NYSTEP) HRMS systems. Processes employee separation transactions, supervisor changes, permanent appointments and non-renewals, updates code tables, and performs periodic data quality reviews. Assists HR department staff and departmental users in utilizing HR system, local self-serve applications and reports/files available for download; provides day-to-day end user support.


Minimum Qualifications:
Associates Degree and 2 years of related experience required. A Bachelors with no experience will also be considered. HRIS records management to include relational database experience required. Excellent communication, analytical, customer service, and team orientation skills. Strong understanding of HR processes and data relations.

Preferred Qualifications

Previous experience working with SUNY HR and NYS Dept of Civil Service (NYSTEP) HRMS systems strongly preferred. Advanced knowledge of MS Excel, Word, and SQL preferred.
