Job description

Position Summary

The ideal candidate for this role will be responsible for identifying, designing and performing data collection, data analysis and reporting in order to analyze and verify Human Resources, Operational, expense with payroll policy performance and compliance. Assist with the operations of the central MSU Payroll office. Work with MSU Payroll staff to ensure that each MSU employee is being paid in accordance with University policies and procedures.  Responsibilities for this position include: recommending enhancements to improve financial compliance; support with funding source business operational requirements; financial tracking and reporting in alignment with operational needs; developing financial analysis tools to support strategic and tactical business operations and policy compliance requirements; preparation and creation of reports and presentations for management and stakeholders; operational performance support via measures and metrics using multiple data sources; developing training content and presentation resources; performance of in-depth data analytics to determine patterns and recognize trends in payroll expense and other data. Develop predictive models to assist with improving decision making and enhance operational efficiencies.  The candidate will be responsible for various pre and post payroll processes and will monitor transactions for compliance within the scope of federal/state/local and various DOL standards.  This position is remote-friendly; with the expectation of on-Campus presence on a regular basis.  This is typically referred to as Hybrid; with the flexibility of regular remote work mixed with in-office work as mutually agreed upon with the supervisor.

Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree in finance, administration, data analysis and reporting, analysis, or another business-related field, 1-3 years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in data mining, data consolidation, report building, operational customer service and business operations support, curriculum development, event management; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired Qualifications

*A minimum of a Bachelors' degree in accounting, finance, or a related field with relevant course work in business administration and information technology.
* Extensive knowledge and demonstrated skills in matters related to payroll, accounting, tax law, human resources and financial management; and may require registration as a CPA or CPP
* Experience with SAP software
* Experience creating financial data queries and understanding the query process
*Experience analyzing data from multiple sources and creating consolidated reporting across multiple business units.
