The purpose of Florida educator certification is to support the academic achievement of our students by assuring that our educators are professionally qualified for highly effective instruction. Florida educators must be certified to teach in our public schools and in many of our private schools. Educators include classroom teachers, school administrators, and other support professionals, such as guidance counselors and media specialists. DESCRIPTION:
In this position, the candidate will serve as a certification evaluation expert leading the bureau’s analytical effort to   process credentials to determine eligibility for an educator’s certificate pursuant to Florida Statutes, State Board of Education Rules, and Department/Bureau policies covering all subject areas. In this capacity, you will assume critical responsibilities related to the implementation of the requirements of state laws specifically as defined by Florida Statues and State Board of Education Rules.

General Responsibilities:

• This position requires in-depth analytical skills, great attention to detail, the ability to work independently, and the ability to attain an acceptable rate of accurate production in a high-volume work environment.
• This position requires familiarity with Florida Statutes and State Board of Education Rules governing the educator certification process.
• This position must assist with the intake of correspondence, applications, ensuring that all documents are accurately entered into the Bureau of Educators Certification database and imaging system as needed.
• Attendance is an essential function of this position.

Specific Responsibilities:

• Responsible for reviewing and evaluating credentials to determine eligibility for Endorsements and Temporary, Professional, and other specialty certificates.
• Requires research and analysis of college programs and courses for applicability to meet specific educator certification requirements established in State Board of Education Rules.
• Supports the Evaluations supervisors with the formal training program during onboarding for new employees and assists with auditing.
• Serves as a lead Evaluations specialist to assist new specialists with certification questions while providing recommendations to help improve production and accuracy.
• Serves as a liaison between each of the four units within the bureau.
• Provides technical assistance to applicant schools, colleges and universities in areas identified as deficient in the preparation of the license application, Commission action on recommendations and other relevant subjects.
• Collaborates with policy team to provide input on educator certification bills during the legislative session.
• Serves as a liaison to other bureaus in Educator Quality to process certification renewal applications.
• Support specialized areas such as certification waivers, final orders, exchange teachers, certification verifications and new certificate pathways.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Knowledge of Florida State Board of Education Rules and procedures governing issuance of Florida Educator Certificates.
• Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.

• Ability to follow written or oral instructions.
• Ability to develop, plan organize and coordinate work assignments using strong time-management skills.

Required/Preferred Qualifications:

• Strong knowledge of educator certification statutes and rules.
• Experience with certification management systems.
