Within the Vehicle Motion Division we design and develop state-of-the art safety and motion solutions for passenger cars, light trucks, and up to medium heavy truck. Vehicle Motion provides solutions for mobility through steering, braking, occupant safety, and vehicle dynamic sensors. Vehicle Motion is also a leader in the software and services that will support the future of Software Defined Vehicles .
Job Description
Position Summary:
The Design Manager is responsible for managing and leading a mechanical development team in order to ensure the on-time development of reliable products that are cost effective, meet customer specifications and maintain company standards.
Position Responsibilities:
- Manage, expand and develop design engineering group with the goal to provide high quality and on time mechanical design for EPS gears
- Provide customers first escalation level to support clarification of specifications and resolution of problems. Develop alternative action plans to address problems and/or schedule delays; suggest compromises and recommend ways to recover project time lost
- Provide strategic guidance to direct team and project towards achieving internal and customer goals
- Strengthen relationships between Bosch Design Team and internal / external customers
- Handle and assign projects to project groups to develop customer specific design solutions according to internal and external requirements under consideration of the Product Development Process within Bosch Vehicle Motion
- Support acquisition programs through review and evaluation of customer mechanical requirements
- Support acquisition process through creation of configurator models, BOM, BGD, etc and provide input for Design portion of ED&T
- Support all involved departments (validation, integration, production, commercial…) in all Design related questions and issues
- Develop and operate within department budget and perform headcount planning in support of Business Plan
- Participate in improving the product development strategy
- Complete all projects within departmental operative procedures company policies and professional standards
- Work with other departments as necessary to define potential new business/project opportunities
- Work with project team to establish and maintain contacts at OEM
- Set priorities of assigned work and obtain supervisor's approval
- Evaluate engineering operations, review work of design engineering personnel, maintain records, enforce company rules, review performance, and make recommendations in personnel decisions
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications
:
- 10+ years of experience in automotive development
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent from four-year college or university
- Versed in problem solving methodologies
- Proficient with MS Excel, MS Project, MS PowerPoint
- Fundamental CAD / FEA knowledge
- Limited travel including international is possible
Preferred Qualifications
:
- 3+ years of direct or lateral leadership
- Masters of Engineering degree in mechanical engineering
- Proficient with CREO, PDM Link
- FE/PE certification
- German language skills
- International experience (work abroad)
- Demonstrated proficiency in DFSS and/or Red-X methodologies
- Experience in project acquisition
