Aventino Cucina is the highly anticipated Roman Trattoria from the team behind The Red Hen & All-Purpose Pizzerias located in Washington, DC. Situated in the center of downtown Bethesda, Aventino is a high-volume, upscale neighborhood restaurant dedicated to quality food, unique cocktails and warm hospitality. Our menus centers on seasonal produce, Italian traditions and modern innovation. We are currently open 7 days a week for dinner, lunch and brunch coming soon!
We are seeking professional and dynamic servers to join our team . Candidates must posses an enthusiasm for sincere, personable service and strong sense of team. At least one year of experience in an upscale casual or fine-dining environment is required. Enhanced knowledge of Italian and Roman cuisine, wine and culture is a plus. Full or part-time positions are available with a 3 shift minimum of availability.
Servers are responsible for providing seamless and attentive service while creating memorable dining experiences for all guests.
Essential Functions
- Operate as the ambassador for Aventino’s culinary vision, culture and general concepts
- Provide efficient, warm service to assigned table section following Aventino’s Steps of Service
- Promptly deliver food to the correct guests according to table and position numbers
- Available to work a variety of days and hours
- Safely and effectively carry up to 3 food or beverage items to a table
- Safely and effectively use FOH/BOH tools and equipment
- Ability to effectively communicate in order to perform and follow job requirements in written and spoken direction
- Ability to multitask calmly and effectively in a busy, stressful environment
- Work in a confined, crowded space of variable noise and temperature levels
- Able to move and lift up to 50 pounds
- Ability to stand and walk for an entire shift and move safely through all areas of the restaurant, which may include stairs, uneven or slick surfaces
Responsibilities and Duties
- Ensures a warm and hospitable atmosphere for all guests
- Use good judgment when dealing with guest challenges
- Maintains a working knowledge of all food and beverage offerings including origin, ingredients, seasonality, flavor, preparation, presentation, allergens and alternatives
- Check mise en place: all items are prepared before the start of service and in their proper place at close.
- Performs opening, on-going, and closing side-work
- Stocks all service stations with prescribed supplies and maintains their cleanliness throughout service
- Alerts management before the start of service of any supply shortages, equipment malfunctions or technical issues
- Details sections ensuring all tables, chairs and banquettes are sanitized/free of debris and wobbles, all tables have their proper setting, and all glass and flatware are smudge-free
- Guide guests in making selections from food and beverage menus by explaining off-menu additions, answering all food preparation inquiries, and offering coursing, recommendations and pairings
- Ask every guest about allergies and/or dietary requirements and proceed according to Aventino’s Allergy Protocol
- Take and write down guests’ food and beverage orders and input accurately into the POS
- Verify consumption of all alcoholic beverages is in accordance with state regulations and alcohol awareness training standards including alerting management to an intoxicated guest
- Continually communicate with management about any guest-related inquiries, feedback, or concerns
- Delegate tasks and direct support efficiently and kindly
- Accurately record and account for all items ordered, process payments, and account for and balance all sales/receipts in compliance with restaurant policies and procedures
- Responsible for the security and reconciliation of a cash deposit
