IT Network Support Specialist

The Office of Information Technology Services at Coastal Carolina University is accepting applications for the position: IT Network Support Specialist . Under supervision of the Associate Director of Network and Telecommunication Services, assists supervisor and Director in supporting both campus and remote-campus infrastructure services, including but not limited to, a wide variety of local area network equipment and software. Installs, terminates, repairs, and certifies all networking cabling and assists with cabling. This is an on-site position.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

• Assists supervisor and Director of Network and Telecommunication Services in supporting both campus and remote campus cabling infrastructure, including a wide variety of local area network equipment and software. Installs, terminates, repairs, and certifies all networking cabling. Performs primary network system administration on network systems/servers as needed including NACs, switches, routers, and wireless controllers, equipment. Documents all work performed as directed.

• Installs, configures, and repairs, as needed, all campus networking cabling and hardware. Assists with troubleshooting or installing television cable and wiring, maintains equipment, and performs system maintenance (including IP TV) for various departments and University Stakeholders. Assists with maintaining or creating documentation. Assist with cross-training colleagues when directed.

• Assists with network and telecommunication growth and hardware transitions. Identifies, troubleshoots and resolves hardware-, software- and network-related problems encountered by end-users of the University network, including but not limited to, Card Readers, Camera Systems, and new computer technology.

• Assists in monitoring of campus network system to ensure optimal operation. Uses established tracking system to log requests; monitors progress, tracks problem resolution, identifies patterns of failure, research bug fixes and implements solutions; communicates with manager regarding unresolved problems.

• Assists supervisor by contributing input to improve operational procedures, processes, and standards as well as change management, in alignment and collaboration with ITS goals and objectives to advance the University mission. Ensures and maintains information security and confidentiality. Utilizes University/ITS/individual resources and time effectively to accomplish tasks and projects.

• Maintains effective technical documentation on hardware and software network configuration and adheres to change control policies.

• Maintains current knowledge of network wiring standards as well as national state, and local fire codes. Maintains current knowledge of cable wiring as well.

• Provides exceptional customer service to all constituents, including but not limited to, faculty, staff, students, visitors, and the community at large.

Requirements: A bachelor's degree in information technology systems, computer science, or related field and experience in information technology systems or a related area is required. Relevant experience may be substituted for bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis.

IT Technician III (AM72/61122700/FTE-S00970P), full-time position with benefits. SC State Pay Band: 06. Salary range: $45,530.00 (minimum) - $64,885.00 (midpoint). Normal work hours are Monday through Thursday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, and Friday, 8:00 am to 12:30 pm. Must be flexible to meet the special scheduling needs of the university. Flexible work hours to include occasional night and weekend hours. Information confidentiality is highly critical.
Required Qualifications
A bachelor's degree in information technology systems, computer science, or related field and experience in information technology systems or a related area. Relevant experience may be substituted for bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis.
Preferred Qualifications Licensure and/or Certification Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Employee must have good working knowledge of network architecture. Employee must have knowledge of computer system analysis, design, testing, debugging and maintenance techniques.
