Position Overview:
The Radiology/Cardiology/Echo Tech (Cardiac Sonographer) specializing in Pediatrics performs diagnostic ultrasound examinations for patients in the pediatric population. This role involves the operation of ultrasound equipment to produce and record images of the cardiovascular system, assisting physicians in diagnosing heart conditions and abnormalities in pediatric patients.
Key Responsibilities:
Conducts ultrasound examinations according to established protocols and physician orders, focusing on pediatric patients.
Operates ultrasound equipment to obtain high-quality images of the heart and vascular structures in pediatric patients.
Positions patients properly and applies gel to the skin to facilitate the ultrasound process.
Adjusts equipment controls to optimize image quality while ensuring patient comfort and safety.
Records and maintains patient records, including images and examination results, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality.
Collaborates with physicians and other healthcare professionals to discuss patient cases and provide accurate diagnostic information.
Assists in the interpretation of ultrasound images, providing preliminary findings to physicians as needed.
Maintains ultrasound equipment by performing routine maintenance and troubleshooting issues as they arise.
Adheres to departmental policies and procedures, including safety protocols and infection control standards.
Participates in continuing education and training programs to stay current with advances in ultrasound technology and pediatric cardiac imaging techniques.
Qualifications:
Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography or a related field.
Certification as a Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) or Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) through a recognized credentialing organization (e.g., ARDMS, CCI).
Specialized training or experience in pediatric cardiac sonography preferred.
Strong understanding of pediatric anatomy, physiology, and pathology related to cardiac imaging.
Proficiency in operating ultrasound equipment and image processing software.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with pediatric patients and their families.
Attention to detail and the ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Willingness to adhere to professional and ethical standards, maintaining patient confidentiality and privacy at all times.
Flexibility to work varying shifts, including weekends and holidays, as required in a healthcare setting.
