The Phelps - Residence Inn boasts 134 guest rooms and 5,039 sq ft of event space. 

Overview:

The phelps Residence Inn is seeking a Sous Chef who will be responsible for assisting in the operations of the kitchen alongisde our Executive Chef. Including, but not limited to coordinating the activities of the line cooks and overseeing food production operations to ensure that quality standards are maintained for the restaurants and banquets.

Responsibilities:

• Preparing meals and food to meet the specifications of guests in a timely manner and up to The Phelps Residence Inn standards.
• Ensuring kitchen staff adhere to set standards, procedures, department rules and sanitation requirements.
• Using kitchen knives and equipment such as grills, ovens, steamers and warmers in food preparation.
• Managing the kitchen inventory and ensuring supplies are fresh and of high quality.
• Ensuring proper food temperatures when cooking and proper storage afterward.
• Keeping the workstation and kitchen equipment clean, organized and sanitized.
• Ability to effectively manage the kitchen staff, motivate them and assign duties.
• Familiarity with the best practices in the hotel and banquet services industry.
• expereince in Microsoft Office, Point of Sale and restaurant management software.
• Ability to multitask and work quickly under pressure.
• Attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Knowledge of various cooking methods, ingredients, and procedures.
• Able to make decisions under pressure
• Help in the preparation and design of all food and drinks menus
• Produce high quality plates both design and taste wise
• Ensure that the kitchen operates in a timely way that meets our PGH quality standards
• Fill in for the Executive Chef in planning and directing food preparation when necessary
• Resourcefully solve any issues that arise and seize control of any problematic situation
• Manage and train kitchen staff, establish working schedule and assess staff’s performance when needed.
• Order supplies to stock inventory appropriately
• Comply with and enforce sanitation regulations and safety standards
• Maintain a positive and professional approach with coworkers and customers

Qualifications:

Requirements:

• 1+ years of experience as a Sous Chef
• Understanding of various cooking methods, ingredients, equipment and procedures
• Excellent record of kitchen and staff management
• Accuracy and speed in handling emergency situations and providing solutions
• Working knowledge of various computer software programs (MS Office, restaurant management software, POS)
• BS degree in Culinary science or related certificate would be a plus
