Job description
We are seeking a skilled Fabricator to join our team. Your primary responsibilities will include performing complex welding assignments independently, setting up and operating welding equipment for all types of assignments, and practicing the application of shop mathematics to do layouts and plan work. You will also operate oxyacetylene torch and plasma cutter for all types of tasks, layout large, critical, and complex fitting and welding assignments, and perform quality checks during fabrication. Your tasks will also include operating a variety of powered, hand-held drills, grinders, and saws, as well as appropriate non-powered hand tools required to perform tasks. You may be required to drive and operate trucks, forklifts, and boom lifts after receiving training and when authorized. You will actively discuss job-related information with co-workers and supervisors for the purposes of understanding and problem solving. Cross-training with different aspects of the business/shop is also part of your role as you continue to learn about the products.
This is a fully on-site position in AMES, Iowa.
Our work environment is a residential land setup with three buildings where all the lifts are built. One building is dedicated to fabrication, another to paint, and another is where all the receiving comes in for the steel and it is bent and prepared to be built into lifts. Our team is fairly small, with the shop at full staff having about 8-9 fabrication people. Our manager is very hands-on and works alongside the team. Because we are a smaller team and company, candidates need to be comfortable working throughout the shop and doing all sorts of different things throughout the day. Everything that we do is custom. We operate in shifts, typically 7A-4P with an hour lunch. However, if it is going to be a hot week, we start at 6AM and take a 1/2 hour lunch to try and get everyone out the door mid-afternoon. We generally work in teams of two, so being a team player is important.
