U.S. NAVAL WAR COLLEGE SEEKS
ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR
COLLEGE OF MARITIME OPERATIONAL WARFARE

U.S. Naval War College. The U.S. Naval War College (NWC) is a Joint Professional Military Education (JPME) institution serving the nation, the Department of Defense, and the U.S. Navy. U.S. and selected international graduates earn Master of Arts degrees in National Security & Strategic Studies or Defense & Strategic Studies accredited by the New England Commission of Higher Education (NECHE). The College educates and develops future leaders through the development of strategic perspective, critical thinking, and cultural awareness, as well as enhancing the capability to advise and eventually serve as senior leaders and policy makers. The College also helps to define the future Navy and its roles and missions; supports combat readiness; strengthens global maritime partnerships; and promotes ethics and leadership throughout the force. College of Maritime Operational Warfare. The position is located in the College of Maritime Operational Warfare (CMOW). CMOW provides maritime operational level of war education in order to improve the ability of U.S. Navy Fleet Commanders and their staffs to plan, prepare, and employ naval, joint, and combined forces across the range of military operations.
Duties and Responsibilities. CMOW faculty teach in one or more of the following maritime operational level of warfare courses: Maritime Staff Operators Course, Maritime Headquarters Staff Course, International Maritime Staff Operators Course, Executive Level Operational Level of War Course, Maritime Operational Planners Course, Combined Force Maritime Component Commanders Course, and the Joint Force Maritime Component Commanders Course. Faculty also provide direct support to U.S. Navy fleet headquarters staffs in crisis and during routine exercises and operations, and by supporting Fleet requested training for international partners. The incumbent will work on a team that includes civilian faculty, senior military officers, government civilians, and contractors. This position requires travel to fleet locations across the globe and the ability to reside, at times, on board U.S. Navy ships that are either in port or underway.
Qualifications. Essential qualifications include: (1) Joint Professional Military Education (Phase I) from any source, (2) an advanced degree in national security affairs or a related field, and (3) experience on a U.S. military operational level of war staff or a Navy numbered fleet staff.
Desirable qualifications include: (1) experience utilizing either a joint or service operational level planning process, (2) service on either a U.S. Navy numbered fleet or Navy component staff, (3) experience teaching, both in the classroom and during military practical exercises, and, (4) the ability to work in a collegial fashion with faculty, staff, and students.

Candidates must be U.S. citizens and be capable of obtaining a Department of Defense Top Secret/SCI security clearance. The selected candidate will be subject to a pre-employment drug screening test and to random drug testing thereafter.
Salary Considerations. Salary is competitive and is accompanied by a generous Federal Civil Service package that includes health insurance, pension and retirement saving plans (with employer matching contributions), paid vacation and sick leave, and other benefits. Rank and salary are commensurate with experience and credentials in accordance with Department of the Navy Faculty Pay Schedule. This is a non-tenure track position.
