The Assistant Paper Machine Superintendent plays a pivotal role in driving strategic and tactical leadership to accomplish key operational objectives encompassing safety, environmental compliance, reliability, production, quality, and cost effectiveness. The successful candidate will prioritize enhancing productivity and cost reduction through optimizing processes/equipment and enhancing operator skills and knowledge. Additionally, this role serves as a crucial liaison and communicator between shift supervisors, operating teams, and maintenance leadership, ensuring the availability of necessary equipment and tools for smooth operations.
Responsibilities:
- Spearhead workplace safety initiatives.
- Oversee the performance of shift supervisors.
- Ensure consistent adherence to operating standard work through daily audits of shift leaders and operators.
- Coordinate with operating crews and maintenance leadership to ensure the availability of equipment and tools.
- Manage equipment shutdown operations to maximize maintenance crew productivity.
- Reinforce operator standardized work system through regular audits and coaching sessions.
- Conduct daily audits of floor-level countermeasure sheets for issue follow-up.
- Coach operators and shift supervisors to enhance performance.
- Conduct weekly audits of designated 5S areas and provide coaching as necessary.
- Monitor key operating parameters of the paper machine on a daily basis.
- Assist or lead in problem-solving efforts related to runability and quality issues.
- Serve as the operations maintenance coordinator to facilitate communication and coordination of maintenance issues.
- Communicate equipment shutdown, preparation, and lockout requirements for maintenance activities.
- Manage reliability issues tracking system to ensure accountability and address paper machine reliability and maintenance needs.
- Support efforts to manage maintenance costs for the paper machine.
- Assist as needed during paper machine outages.
Who Will Be a Great Fit?
- 6-10 years of prior experience in paper machine operations.
- 3-5 years of experience as a paper machine supervisor.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to influence people.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Effective written and verbal communication abilities.
- Capacity to motivate individuals to achieve higher performance.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office; SAP experience is advantageous.
