Summary/objective

The PROCUREMENT SPECIALIST is responsible for coordinating with our field teams and office staff to source, purchase, and deliver materials to our multiple active projects. Additionally, this position is responsible for overseeing the warehouse and scheduling the daily deliveries, returns, and debris collection. This position requires an excellent multi-tasker with exceptional organizational and document-tracking skills for a fast-paced construction company serving Columbia/Lexington South Carolina and the surrounding area.

Responsibilities for the Purchasing Specialist

• Act as a point of contact between the company and suppliers
• Fulfilling the “5 Rights” in purchasing transactions: Right Quality, Right Quantity, Right Price, Right Time, and Right Place.
• Order materials online, process purchase orders, work orders, packing slips
• Track all expenses on a spreadsheet and Builder-trend.
• Schedule the drivers for pick-ups, deliveries, returns, and hauling debris.
• Coordinate with Superintendents and teams to perform assigned tasks.
• Attend weekly project meetings and provide weekly status updates of job orders/delays.
• Make certain returns are processed timely to capture refunds and credits.
• Monitor and update relevant departments regarding price fluctuations of goods, vendor pricing, discounts, rebates, bulk pricing, and product availability (backorders).
• Track material expenses for change orders and report costs to the project coordinator
• Manage an efficient flow of goods to ensure optimum production
• Identify potential suppliers based on project requirements
• Oversee warehouse inventory, stocking material, restocking excess material, and resourcing inventory to maximize material cost savings.

Qualifications for Purchasing Specialist

· Experience working in the procurement department in a related field.

· Working knowledge of the construction industry and familiarity with building materials.

· Previous experience (warehouse, inventory, personnel, construction).

· Strong understanding of procurement, negotiation techniques, and conflict resolution.

· Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

· Exceptional multi-tasking, organizational, and documentation skills.

· Excellent computer skills.

Physical Demands

•   Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• Must be able to lift 50 pounds at a time.
• Manual dexterity and visual acuity to operate a computer and perform sales activities in an office environment, with or without reasonable accommodations.

Required education and experience.

•   High School/GED
•   Interest in Logistics

Preferred education and experience

• 2+ years of purchasing experience in a professional environment.
