Job description

The YSU Centofanti School of Nursing has rapidly growing undergraduate and graduate programs focused on a popular and in-demand profession. Driving our growth is the desire to provide our students with the ability to care for individuals and groups within our community. Our BSN and MSN programs are fully accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). Our BSN programs are accredited by the Accreditation Commission on Education in Nursing (ACEN). Our entry-level BSN and our ADN programs are approved by the Ohio Board of Nursing. 



Our School of Nursing is seeking a motivated, positive, and student-centered nursing educator to provide exemplary undergraduate nursing instruction for our associate degree, and baccalaureate, and RN-BSN programs. Areas will include nursing fundamentals, medical-surgical nursing, and selected nursing specialty areas. The position focus will be teaching in the classroom, skills, and simulation labs, and at the clinical site. Management of student work within an online platform is an essential skill. 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities : Creates an active and dynamic learning environment by performing evidence-based teaching and evaluation of students. 



Provides ongoing evaluation of students' knowledge and progression in cognitive, psychomotor, and affective skills. 



Supports student progression in academics and socialization into the role of nursing. 

Works with the simulation coordinator to develop, implement, and evaluate clinical scenarios within the simulation laboratory environment. 



Actively participates in a systematic plan for curriculum design, program evaluation, and accreditation needs.  Participates in mentoring, advising, and registering students for nursing courses.  Participates in recruitment, retention, and successful progression of students within the program.  Commits to working with diverse student and community populations while building a culturally diverse and inclusive educational environment.  Participates in School of Nursing, College, and University service activities and abides by policies.  



Plans, organizes, teaches, and provides feedback to promote and direct student success. Responds to students in a timely manner. Communicates with students, departments, and university officials via university provided tools and resources. 



Ability to contribute to the diversity, cultural sensitivity, and excellence of the University community through teaching.

Overview of the Centofanti School of Nursing and Youngstown State University:

The Centofanti School of Nursing has provided education to student nurses for over 55 years. Our school beginnings focused on undergraduate education including associate and baccalaureate degrees and an RN-BSN completion program. As the school evolved, graduate programs were created in nurse practitioner and nursing education tracks. Currently, we grant the doctoral degree to nurse anesthesia students. It is our goal to provide an excellent nursing education to our students and create a quality nursing workforce in our community.   



Other Functions and Responsibilities:  Performs other related duties as assigned.



Equipment Operated:  Computer and all other standard office equipment.



Work Schedule:  Typically, Monday through Friday, including some evenings, and the possibility of some weekend days.



Supervision Exercised:  May exercise supervision over student employees.



Reports to: Director, Centofanti School of Nursing

Required Certifications, Training, and/or Licensures:  Unencumbered Ohio RN license.



Minimum Qualifications:  B achelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) from an accredited college or university. Two or more years of experience as a registered nurse. Unencumbered Ohio RN license.


Preferred Qualifications:  Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) or PhD. One or more years of undergraduate teaching in fundamentals and/or medical-surgical nursing in the classroom, clinical, and lab. Experience in advanced medical-surgical teaching; scenario simulation. Some documented experience in one specialty nursing area including OB, Mental Health, or Pediatrics.
