This is a Full-Time 40 Hour Weekly position with the Bureau of Human Resources and Administration - Building and Grounds. For more information on the Bureau of Human Resources and Administration, please visit .
This position will perform duties in the Capitol Complex building boiler plants and mechanical rooms. This includes general maintenance and safe operation of the systems that generate heat in the facilities. The incumbent will also be required to work with the other plumbing staff to maintain or install plumbing fixtures, plumbing systems, or perform plumbing repairs to keep the plumbing operations on the Capitol Complex in good operating condition by performing necessary repairs.
Some of the equipment that this position is responsible for includes low-pressure boilers, high-pressure boilers, power boilers, steam boilers, and hot water heating systems. Boiler operators will make manual adjustments to this equipment during their servicing and perform interior condition inspections of all boilers.
Duties Include:
- perform routine inspections and maintenance on the equipment and systems;
- perform tasks like replacing defective valves, filters, or steam gauges on a heating system;
- test boiler water and add water treatment chemicals as needed;
- keeping safety at the forefront, boiler operators will watch the system during operation and attend to any additional problems; and
- record their service data in logs.
Licenses and Certifications:
Incumbent must be a licensed journeyman plumber and have the ability to acquire a contractor plumbing license.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
Experience in boiler operation is preferred.
Knowledge of:
- local, state, and federal building codes;
- appropriate installation and repair techniques;
- electrical and mechanical engineering and design;
- the functions of various plumbing systems;
- in-depth experience in high-pressure and low-pressure boilers.
Ability to:
- read and follow blueprints;
- interpret technical specifications and regulations;
- operate the necessary tools of the trade;
- communicate information clearly and concisely;
- deal tactfully and work effectively with others.
This position is eligible for Veterans' Preference per ARSD 55:10:02:08.
