We are seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Scholar to work on the biotransformation of dairy processing waste, particularly ice cream waste, into value-added products. The successful candidate will conduct research in laboratories at the Department of Food Science, Department of Agricultural and Biological Engineering, and Department of Chemical Engineering at The Pennsylvania State University . The duration of this full-time position is one year; renewal is possible depending on the performance of the candidate and the availability of funds.
Responsibilities
Understand the ice cream waste components to develop innovative and sustainable processes to recover and utilize the waste in new food and non-food applications.
Conduct extensive research to bio-transform ice cream waste into value-added fat-, protein-, and carbohydrate-based products.
Conduct extensive research to convert ice cream waste into biofuels and bioenergy via fermentation.
Work in a multidisciplinary team and perform industrial collaborations.
Qualifications
The position requires a Ph.D. degree in Food Science, Biological Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related discipline by the time of appointment. Preference will be given to candidates with expertise in fermentation, co-digestion, bioprocessing, biocatalysis, and agro-waste valorization. The candidate must have excellent communication skills to deliver research and must be able to interact effectively in a multi-disciplinary research environment.
