JOB DESCRIPTION Summary/ Objective East Side House Settlement (ESH) is a community resource in the South Bronx. We believe education is the key that enables all people to create an economic and civic opportunities for themselves, their families and the communities. ESHs Harvest to Haven: Home Delivered Meals (HDM) aligns with our mission by maintaining the nutritional health for homebound older adults and their continued quality of life. Older adults who are 60 years of age or older and have difficulty preparing meals can qualify and receive home-delivered meals funded by the New York City Department for the Aging (DFTA).
We are seeking a dynamic, team player who shares our passion for providing exceptional services to meet the critical nutritional needs of these older adults in Community Districts 1-6 in the South Bronx. The ESH Harvest to Haven HDM
Delivery Associate will work at the direction of the Harvest to Haven Director of HDM Services with a focus on data tracking, packing, delivering meals and assisting the driver.
Essential Functions: Under the general supervision of the Director of HDM Services, the successful candidate will be responsible for but not limited to: - Assisting in packing of home-delivered meals and maintaining accurate count of hot, frozen and kosher meals.
- Maintaining accurate daily log temperature log of meal deliveries.
- Moving unpacked and stored food and supplies as required.
- Ensuring meals are securely fastened to meal transporter and bags are properly packed and stored.
- Following DFTA policy regarding customer service and safety.
- Reporting any difficulty with meal delivery or change in client's status, i.e. (vacation, clinic, appointments, hospitalization, etc.).
- Maintaining accurate daily log of meals delivered and contributions collected and assisting in scheduling meal delivery to minimize time and distance between delivery points.
- Knowledge of target areas in Community Districts 1-6 and/or ability to read maps and follow directions.
- Knowledge and genuine concern for the physical, mental and emotional needs of older persons; basic visual monitoring of their clients and report any significant changes to their direct supervisor for follow up. e.g. person doesn't answer the door; person appears to be ill; person's behavior is different than it usually is.
- Performing other duties as required by the supervisor of the site.

Required Skills/ Abilities - Ability to lift heavy objects, walk long distances, climb stairs and stand for long hours.
- Thorough understanding of HDM and DFTA policies and procedures;
- Proficiency in use of technology such as laptop computers, tablets, Android and iOS operating systems;
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for data tracking;
- Good analytical skills and ability to make sound judgments;
- Excellent communication, project management, and multi-tasking skills;
- Able to remain professional and courteous at all times;
- Ability to read, write and speak English.
- Must wear face covering and maintain appropriate social distancing.
Required Education and Experience: - High school diploma or equivalent is required;
- Demonstrated cultural competence with respect to the South Bronx and New York City;
- Understanding of New York Citys diversity and experience working with people of diverse backgrounds;
- Driver's License and ESH approved driving record preferred but not required;
- Certification in Food Safety by the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene preferred;
- Experience in food operations preferred;
- Bilingual/Spanish is preferred
Supervisory Responsibility None.
Work Environment This position will operate in multiple environments including a warehouse, commercial kitchen, delivery truck and Community Districts 1-6 in the South Bronx.
Travel Heavy local travel is expected for this position.
Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. Position will require the consistent ability to lift 50 lbs. or more, with or without assistive devices (hand truck, weight belt, etc.). Must be able to complete various activities in order to complete deliveries that may require hours of lifting, standing, and carrying.
Work Schedule Days and hours of work will range within Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and occasional weekends. Days/hours subject to change based on ESHs program needs.
