Successful applicants for these positions will participate in the annual Missouri Thousand Cankers Disease (TCD) survey of black walnut for detecting the presence of this disease in the state. The employee will be assigned a survey area where they will be responsible for locating suitable trap locations and preparation, placement, monitoring, and collection of these traps. The employee will be responsible for navigating to and recording the location of trap locations using GPS units, maps and data sheets. The employee will follow the required survey time frames and comply with established reporting requirements. The employee is responsible for the return of all department issued equipment and materials.
The Jefferson City position will have the above mentioned responsibilities. However, the emphasis of the job will be sorting samples in the lab from the TCD survey. Visual and trapping surveys will be conducted in various locations around the state as time allows. Knowledge and experience with using a microscope and insect identification is desirable. Employee must be able to work independently and sit for extended periods of time processing samples and entering data.
