Description
Counselors are responsible for group(s) of children on a daily basis: Ensure children's safety, manage children's behavior and act as a role model and mentor, model constructive participation in all daily activities, work closely with Director(s) & Rec staff to ensure safety of all children.
RESPONSIBLE TO: Program Director(s) & Supervisors
Responsibilities - Must be 15 years of age or older.
- Must be available a minimum of 7 weeks; attend all trainings and staff meetings.
- Act as a role model for participants, display appropriate behavior at all times.
- Create a safe environment; follow and enforce program rules.
- Plan/ implement age appropriate activities including arts and crafts, games, sports, theme days, boating and swimming.
- Must be CPR/ first aid certified, able to perform basic first aid skills.
- Create an environment that welcomes participants, families and staff.
- Foster positive relationships among participants and other staff.
- Demonstrate knowledge of Rec objectives, rules and policies.
- Communicate with other staff and directors
- Be punctual, organized and energetic
- Assume responsibility for the safety of participants at all times.
- Perform basic housekeeping tasks.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications - Possession of a valid Massachusetts Driver's License.
- Identify and respond to hazards.
- Work with different age and skill levels.
- Assist in the case of an emergency.
- Must be able to work outside in extreme conditions (heat/noise, etc.).
- Possess strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of patrons.
