Chloeta is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Principal Investigator to lead a cultural resources project with a federal client , specifically focusing on the nom ination of a site to the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). The Principal Investigator will be responsible for overseeing aspects of the project, from archival research and site visits to the preparation and production of the NRHP nomination documents.

Duties/Responsibilities
- Lead s and coordinate s all phases of cultural resources projects, including archival research, site visits, and documentation .
- Synthesize s background information from archival sources and digital files to create a comprehensive historic context for the nominated sites .
- Conducts on-site assessments to document the current condition of the structures . This includes photographing the structures/features from various angles and collecting relevant data needed for the nomination documents .
- Determine s contributing and non-contributing elements criteria for the Multi-property NRHP nomination form .
- Collaborate s with team members, stakeholders, and government agencies to gather necessary data and documentation .
- Prepare s and deliver s high-quality draft and final document packets, including cover forms, site forms, maps, photographs, and appendices .
- Verifies and supplements archival research with observations made on-site to ensure accuracy and completeness in the NRHP nomination documentation .
- Work collaboratively as part of the project team to manage project timelines, budgets, and deliverables to meet client expectations and project deadlines .

Required Skills/Abilities
- Ability to conduct thorough archival research to gather historical information from various sources, including hardcopy archives and digital files .
- Proficiency in analyzing historical data and synthesizing it to create a comprehensive historic context for the nominated sites .
- Strong documentation skills to accurately record findings, observations, and assessments during site visits and research activities .
- Excellent writing skills to prepare clear, concise, and well-organized documents, including NRHP nomination forms, reports, and correspondence. Effective verbal communication skills are also important for collaboration with team members, stakeholders, and government agencies .
- Familiarity with relevant professional standards, guidelines, and regulations related to cultural resources management, historic preservation, and NRHP nominations.
- Ability to manage project timelines, budgets, and deliverables effectively to meet client expectations and project deadlines.
- A meticulous approach to work with a keen eye for detail is essential, particularly when documenting historical information and preparing nomination documents.
- Proficiency in conducting fieldwork, including site visits, assessments, and documentation. This may involve hiking to remote locations and working in various outdoor conditions.
- A bility to work collaboratively with diverse team members, stakeholders, and government agencies to gather data, share information, and coordinate project activities.
- Sensitivity to cultural considerations and respect for the perspectives and values of local communities and stakeholders involved in the project.
- Knowledge of regulatory requirements and compliance standards related to cultural resources management and historic preservation, including adherence to federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
Education and Experience
- Required: Graduate degree in archaeology, anthropology, historic preservation, or a closely related field.
- Required : Minimum of 2 years of professional experience in cultural resources management, with a focus on NRHP nominations and historic preservation projects.
- Required: Minimum of 1 year experience working within the Pacific Northwest or Upper Great Plains areas. This includes work completed in Washington, Idaho, Oregon (Pacific Northwest) and Montana, North Dakota and South Dakota (Upper Great Plains).
- Required: Extensive experience with NRHP and National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA)
- Preferred: Completion of an Archaeology-focus field school
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
- This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, etc .
- Ability to drive to work sites within Western Montana.
- Ability to walk for moderate distances on varying trail terrains and uneven surfaces in all weather conditions. The work is primarily performed in forest and range environments in steep terrain where surfaces may be extremely uneven, rocky, covered with vegetation, etc. Temperatures vary from above 100 degrees F to below freezing. Risks include snake or insect bites, stings, falling and rolling materials.
- Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds at times.
