Position Overview:

Under the general direction of the Chief Operations Officer, the Director of Human Resources is responsible for leading and executing human resource strategy in support of the overall vision, mission, and strategic directions of SFBU. The director provides strategic leadership for the campus in the areas of talent acquisition and management, organizational development, and performance management, training and development, and classification and compensation.. Additionally, the director works collaboratively with other university leadership to ensure compliance with federal and state laws and other regulatory requirements. This is a salaried exempt position under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Provide strategic advice and guidance to the university’s senior leadership team regarding key organizational and management issues.
• Provide overall leadership and guidance to the HR function by overseeing talent acquisition, career development, succession planning, retention, training, leadership development, compensation and benefits.
• Develop comprehensive HR plans and strategies (including recruiting and retention plans) to meet the human capital needs of the university.
• In collaboration with other campus leadership, administer a benefits program that is competitive and cost-effective.
• Establish and implement HR efforts that effectively communicate and support SFBU’s mission and strategic vision. 
• Supervise other employees in Human Resources.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university;
• A minimum of 7 years of HR experience, with at least five years of progressively responsible HR experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

• MBA or MA/MS in human resources or related field preferred.
• SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) or SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) certification preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Thorough knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations.
• Thorough knowledge of classification and compensation principles.
• Demonstrated ability to apply state and federal employment employment and non-discrimination laws.
• Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion, and application of those principals to build a culturally diverse and welcoming campus community.
• Demonstrated ability to investigate and analyze problems, utilize creative problem-solving skills with the ability to reason logically, exercise good judgment and discretion, develop imaginative and innovative solutions, negotiate, and resolve highly sensitive, complex and/or unprecedented problems.
• Demonstrated commitment to be consultative and collaborative and the ability to develop cooperative working relationships at all levels of the University.
• Demonstrated excellent supervisory and planning skills and success in building human resources or similar functions into strategic units in large and complex organizations.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
• Knowledge of and experience with varied human resource information systems.
• Proficiency with cloud-based software, Google Suite, Microsoft Office Suite or other- related software.

Work Environment and Physical Demands:

• Job duties typically performed in an office environment.
• Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
