Director of Freelance Services

Based in New York City, NY

The American Federation of Musicians of the US and Canada is accepting resumés for the position of Director of Freelance Services.

The successful applicant will be based in or relocate to New York City and report to the International President.

Purpose:
This position supports AFM Local Union officers and staff in the Locals' mission to address the workplace and economic needs of musicians and acts whose primary work falls outside the traditional employer/employee boundaries, i.e., indie, self-produced, "gig-worker” musicians.

Qualifications:
The successful candidate will (1) possess a working knowledge of the freelance/general business sector of the music industry and must have, or can develop, a familiarity with AFM Local Unions and Local Union officers; (2) possess a hands-on familiarity with web hosting technology, including cPanel and WordPress; (3) be possessed of a disposition suitable for sales and "help desk” environments; (4) possess excellent writing and verbal skills and proficiency in the use of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Publisher; (5) be able to travel; (6) be self-motivated to explore helpful new ideas and concepts relevant to the freelance music sector; (7) be comfortable speaking to a range of audiences, in person and via videoconference, about the Department's programs.

Primary Responsibilities:
In office:

• Strengthen and maintain a collaborative relationship between the Department and Local officers via phone and email.
• Administer the AFM Freelance Co-funding program, which augments Local unions' mission in support of the freelance music sector.
• Administer the AFM's GoProHosting web-hosting service and support Local union and member clients thereof.
• Administer the AFM's various web-based programs in support of the freelance sector.
• Develop relevant Freelance Department content for publication in the AFM's monthly magazine.
• Administer the AFM's Booking Agency License signatory program.
• Work closely with the AFM's Communications, Education and Organizing departments in devising programs and strategies for Local unions in support of the freelance sector.

In the field:

• As assigned by the President, travel to AFM Local union meetings and regional conferences to raise awareness of Department resources.
• As assigned by the President, attend industry trade shows in the US and Canada relevant to the freelance musician sector.

Salary range: $70,000.00-$75,000.00 with an excellent benefits package.
