Position Description
Teach in-person lecture/lab sections in Biology courses that are typically taught at City College of San Francisco such as Human Anatomy, Cell and Molecular Biology, Ecology, General Biology, Human Biology, Genetics, Microbiology, Nutrition, Human Physiology, and Zoology (See Minimum qualifications).

Job Duties

1. Teach day, evening, and/or Saturday classes in-person at any District Campus as part of assigned workload.

2. Participate in on-going biology curriculum development, including the upgrading of course outlines, student-learning objectives and development of innovative and effective laboratory exercises and demonstrations.

3. Maintain standards of professional knowledge, conduct, and ethics appropriate to the position, the department, and the College.

4. Communicate and work effectively and amicably with colleagues in the department, contribute to the organization and maintenance of models; slide collections, laboratory equipment and materials relevant to the teaching of biology classes.

5. Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications

City College of San Francisco Minimum Requirements:
1. Demonstrated knowledge, skills, and abilities to work with community college students with diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, sexual orientations, disabilities, and ethnic backgrounds (Required).

For HUMAN ANATOMY :
Earned Master’s Degree or higher in Human Anatomy from an accredited institution; OR THE EQUIVALENT*;
OR
Earned Master’s Degree in a Biological Science from an accredited institution with a minimum of 24 semester units of upper division or graduate level coursework in Human Anatomy including each of the following areas: Gross Anatomy, Microscopic Anatomy, Neuroanatomy, Embryology, and Mammalian Physiology; OR THE EQUIVALENT*.

FOR CELL AND MOLECULAR BIOLOGY :
Earned Master’s Degree in Molecular Biology or Cell Biology from an accredited institution; OR THE EQUIVALENT*;
OR
Earned Master’s Degree in any Biological Science with concentration in Molecular Biology or Cell Biology from an accredited institution; OR THE EQUIVALENT*;
OR
Earned Bachelor’s Degree in Molecular Biology or Cell Biology from an accredited institution AND earned Master’s Degree in any Biological Science from an accredited institution; OR THE EQUIVALENT*.

FOR ECOLOGY :
Earned Master’s Degree or higher in Ecology from an accredited institution; OR THE EQUIVALENT*; OR
Earned Master’s Degree or higher in Biological Science with a concentration in upper division/graduate coursework in Ecology from an accredited institution; OR THE EQUIVALENT*.

FOR GENERAL BIOLOGY :
Earned Master’s Degree or higher in Biological Science from an accredited institution with upper division and graduate level coursework in all or most of the principal sub disciplines covered in General Biology, Ecology, Evolution, and Human Biology; OR THE EQUIVALENT*.

FOR GENETICS :
Earned Master’s Degree in Genetics from an accredited institution; OR THE EQUIVALENT*;
OR
Earned Master’s Degree in Biological Science with at least twelve semester units in Genetics from an accredited institution; OR THE EQUIVALENT*.

FOR MICROBIOLOGY :
Earned Master’s Degree in Microbiology from an accredited institution; OR THE EQUIVALENT*;
OR
Earned Master’s Degree in Biological Science with concentration in Microbiology from an accredited institution; OR THE QUIVALENT*;
OR
Earned Bachelor’s Degree in Microbiology from an accredited institution AND earned Master’s Degree in any Biological Science from an accredited institution; OR THE EQUIVALENT*.

FOR NUTRITION :
Earned Master’s Degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, or Dietetics and Food Administration from an accredited institution; OR THE EQUIVALENT*;
OR
Earned Bachelor’s degree in any of the above AND Masters degree in Chemistry, Public Health, or Family and Consumer Studies/Home Economics; OR THE EQUIVALENT*.

FOR HUMAN PHYSIOLOGY :
Earned Master’s Degree in Human Physiology from an accredited institution; OR THE EQUIVALENT*;
OR
Earned Master’s Degree in a Biological Science from an accredited institution with a minimum of 24 units of upper division or graduate level coursework in Human Physiology, including significant work with basic electronic or other Human Physiology laboratory equipment; OR THE EQUIVALENT*

Desirable Qualifications

1. Course completion in Biological Sciences courses typically taught at a community college/level as indicated by academic transcripts and professional activities.

2. Experience in teaching college level biology lecture and lab courses for biology and general education students.

3. Demonstrated skills in the use of chemical and biological equipment and techniques routinely encountered in biology laboratories (applies to lab courses only).

4. Demonstrated ability to clearly and effectively communicate and explain biological data and concepts in a classroom setting to a diverse student body.

5. Demonstrated ability to design, organize, and run laboratories in biology (applies to lab courses only).

6. Demonstrated ability to work effectively and cooperatively in team teaching situations.
