SpecterOps is a cybersecurity solutions and services provider specializing in deep knowledge of adversary tradecraft to help clients detect and defend against sophisticated attackers. We are seeking motivated and curious students or recent graduates to join the Research team as an intern this summer. If you have a passion for cybersecurity and machine learning, we want to hear from you! This year, the summer internship program will run for 8 weeks, beginning June 2024 through August 2024. Successful candidates must be able to commit for the entire length.

Internships at SpecterOps aim to offer students industry exposure and hands-on experience. You will partner closely with industry experts and be exposed to innovative solutions, research, and tools that will further enhance your knowledge and prepare you to add value as a professional in our industry.

The research intern will work with the research team, leveraging their machine learning and data analysis domain knowledge to help apply data-focused approaches to real-world cybersecurity problems encountered by SpecterOps assessment teams and BloodHound Enterprise product customers. The research intern will be involved in exploratory data analysis, data wrangling and feature engineering, model training and experimentation, and model pipeline development and deployment. Additionally, the intern will help the research team develop machine learning/data analysis processes, procedures, and operational practices and will help investigate additional research areas where data-focused approaches may be operationally useful.

Salary Range: $45.00 - $55.00 Hourly 

Location: This hybrid position requires an on-site presence in our Seattle office 1-2 days a week. 

• SpecterOps will provide lodging for interns not based in the Seattle area.
• Candidates must be authorized to work and reside in the United States; we do not currently sponsor immigration visas.

What you’ll be doing:

• Collaborate with leading cybersecurity experts (though not data scientists/ML engineers).
• Apply data engineering and machine learning techniques to solve real-world problems, from data analysis and wrangling to model training and pipeline development.
• Assist in developing machine learning/data analysis processes, procedures, and operational practices.
• Investigate and explore areas where data-focused applied research approaches may be operationally beneficial.
• Research and help guide efforts in applying machine learning to data-driven problems encountered at SpecterOps.

Qualifications:

• Currently pursuing a Graduate degree in Data Science, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline.
• Specializations in one or more of the following areas: adversarial machine learning, graph/network analytics, information retrieval, large language model, multimodal learning, predictive analytics, recommendation systems, reinforcement learning, or text mining.
• Ability to commit to 8-week internship (20-30 hours weekly)
• Desire to embody our core values of passionate curiosity, consistent improvement, empathy, sustainability, humility, and empowerment through transparency.
• At least 1+ years of coding experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Knowledge of cybersecurity attacks and defenses.
• Proficiency in data wrangling and exploratory data analysis.
• Expertise in developing machine learning models and operational pipelines.
• Experience with deep learning frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow, Keras, etc.)
