Responsibilities

The Financial Counseling Specialist is responsible for facilitating a positive patient experience through friendly coordination and advocacy in terms of reception registration and other interactions during the patient's stay in the facility. Duties include assisting in proper identification of the patient collection of patient demographics information financial counseling cashiering advocating for governmental programs as well as anticipating and responding to the non-clinical needs of patients and their families. This position requires the full understanding and active participation in fulfilling the Mission of Community Hospital of San Bernardino. It is expected that the employee will demonstrate behavior consistent with the Core Values. The employee shall support Community Hospital of San Bernardino strategic plan and the goals and direction of the quality improvement process and activities.

Qualifications

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Two (2) years current hospital or medical office experience is required.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: High School diploma or equivalent is required.

LICENSURE CERTIFICATIONS AND PROFESSIONAL MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENTS: Completion of Insurance Training and Office of Inspector General (OIG) Training is required.

SPECIAL SKILLS REQUIREMENTS: Must pass five (5) minute data entry test of 370 keystrokes(max 16% error rate).Medical terminology and basic knowledge of computer usage is required. Knowledge of managed care Medical Medicare laws government programs and requirements. Ability to interpret various types of insurance policies contract & capitation processes advocacy for government programs. Ability to work in close collaboration with other departments.
