Job description
Whitbeck Bennett, PLLC, a national family law firm with eight offices located in six states is seeking a Paralegal experienced in family law. This position is located at a Manassas location.
The Whitbeck Bennett team is comprised of over 25 attorneys with a focus on domestic law including: divorce, child custody, spousal support, education law, and mental health law. To read more about the firm visit our website: here.
The paralegal will assist attorney(s) by providing administrative and support services including document preparation and review, preparing, and filing documents with courts, and trial preparation.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Meets with attorneys, clients, and other professionals to discuss assigned cases or projects.
- Drafts legal documents including routine pleadings, files pleadings according to judicial procedures.
- Prepares, organizes, stores, and retrieves case files, which may include evidence, exhibits, depositions, pleadings, exhibits, and other items.
- Assists attorneys with trial preparation.
- Develops and maintains records regarding billable hours spent on specific cases.
- Maintain attorney(s) calendar by monitoring by court appearance dates, pleadings, and dockets court-imposed deadlines.
- Communicate and obtain information, following up on delegated assignments.
- Ability to effectively communicate with clients, court personnel, opposing counsel, experts, etc.
- Consistent follow-up and ability to multi-task and effectively priorities and meet tight deadlines.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Understanding of legal language and principles, court pleadings and processes, and other related matters.
- Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
- Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift to 15 pounds at times.
