Job description
The Director of Pulmonary Services manages and coordinates the activities and personnel of the Respiratory Therapy Department, Pulmonary Function Lab and the Sleep Center/EEG.
Core Competencies
- Assists subordinate supervisors in resolving personnel issues.
- Documents disciplinary problems and discusses the behavior with the employee.
- Recommends and/or approves salary increases, promotions, transfers, suspensions and dismissals.
- Ensures selection, training, orientation and assignments of department staff; develops standards of performance and monitors and manages staff; evaluates performance and initiates or makes recommendations for personnel actions, promotions and disciplinary action; encourages professional development through in-service education; develops and maintains job description for all staff members; resolves staff grievances.
- Prepares and submits the departmental budget and once approved, controls personnel and expenses accordingly.
- Establishes long range goals and objectives for the departments and directs the departments toward achievement of same with assistance from the Medical Director of Pulmonary Services .
- Reviews departmental operations for opportunities for cost savings through cross-utilization of personnel, utilization management of clinical services provided, increased productivity and efficiency and once identified, directs departments toward achievement of same.
- Prepares and submits departmental Performance Improvement (PI) plans when approved, directs the departments toward development and achievement of clinical and departmental standards and guidelines. Tracks, analyzes and utilizes outcome data for Cardiovascular Services Performance Improvement.
- Provides technical advice and instruction to the departments employees as needed.
- Participates in various in-house medical center and medical staff committees such as Infection Control and Patient Care PI
- Manages environment to provide safe, clean operational departments.
- Develops the annual budget, including capital budget requests, growth targets, productivity targets and new programs to ensure financial stability.
- Directs the Human Resource Management functions of the department inclusive of interviewing, hiring, performance evaluations, coaching, reward and recognition, and disciplinary action (when indicated).
Department Specific Competencies
- Coordinates the Payroll function with TMMC Human Resources Department and interprets personnel policies in order to ensure accurate and timely payment for employees.
- Creates a culture of safety and utilizes resources to promote quality and safety in practice and patient care.
- Develops partnerships and relationships between Human Resources, Legal, Finance, IS and Directors and Managers to provide the optimal support for Hospital Operations.
- Collaborates with the Director, Patient Experience to ensure an outstanding patient experience throughout the Medical Center that results in improved patient satisfaction.
- Develops programs within the Clinical Education structure using Lean principles whenever possible.
- Hires, develops, and manages human resources according to policy, regulations and approved budget.

Compensation Range $133,000 - $228,000 / Annually
