Position Summary:

Working under the supervision of Police Sergeant and or Lieutenant, the academic support specialist provides help with a broad range of office responsibilities and maintains the daily needs of the police department offices. The academic support specialist’s main function is to provide professional support to the police department.   

Example of Job Duties:

Under the direction of the Police Sergeant and Lieutenant, the Academic Support Specialist is responsible for providing professional support to the police department through effective performance in these essential duties:

• Supervise and manage daily front desk operations and services of the police department.
• Greeting and providing services to visitors at the police dispatch window / office.  
• Receiving initial phone calls for services and forwarding the information to police personnel
• Maintain communication with officers through written and oral correspondence
• Monitoring the fire alarm panel, and relaying any alarms to police personnel
• Monitoring the video camera screen, and relaying concerning information to police personnel
• Schedule and supervise student workers for the Police Department
• Coordinate and manage all administrative tasks: scheduling appointments, provide telephone coverage, compose office correspondence, assist with budget and financial record keeping, maintain reports for the Police Department
• Schedule and operate video and audio calls using the system’s platforms--WebEx and Microsoft Teams. Proficiency with meeting tools and willingness to learn new skills in this area is required.
• Work with IT Helpdesk to ensure efficient operation of hardware and software for all computers in the Police Department
• Meet with the Police Sergeant and or Lieutenant on a regular basis. Perform additional responsibilities as needed.

Incumbents must possess proven ability to effectively work with a culturally, linguistically, and ethnically diverse faculty, staff, and student. They are expected to have excellent oral and written communication skills along with strong Information technology literacy skills such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams etc.).

Minimum Qualifications:

Associate's degree in a related field and relevant office experience. 

Incumbents are required to have demonstrated advanced knowledge and abilities in the following: 

• Advanced knowledge with Excel, Word and Outlook.
• Experience working in a fast-paced office.
• Experience with budget and financial record keeping.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Flexible with ability to work evening hours during the week and day shift on Saturdays.
• Experience with face-to-face customer service.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision.

Salary:

$32.36 hourly.
