General Summary:

Implements a team based advising model designed to guide both domestic and international undergraduate advisees throughout their four years at Agnes Scott College within the guidelines of federal, state, and local laws, along with office, division, and college policies and procedures. Leads immigration advising for all of the international student population (including graduate level students). Works with students, parents/guardians, faculty, staff, other offices on campus, other institutions and government agencies.

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Collaborates with students from enrollment through graduation to develop and document a customized educational plan that includes course exploration, major and career goals, service learning and impactful experiences such as study abroad, internships and mentored research.
  2. Serves as Primary Designated School Official (PDSO), which is a designated institutional representative to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security responsible for processing immigration documents and maintaining students' records in the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS), as well as the institutional database on initial enrollment, transfer in/out, change of status, deferred attendance, Optional Practical Training (OPT), and termination.
  3. Provides individual F-1 immigration advising/counseling for international students throughout their four years, including workshops on travel, obtaining visas for the Global Journeys program, curricular practical training, and optional practical training.
  4. Keeps up to date on regulatory knowledge in order to independently analyze, interpret, and make decisions about student cases in alignment with federal immigration regulation and College policies and provides appropriate advice based on analysis.
  5. Coordinates annual International Student arrivals and orientation.
  6. Collaborates with admissions, enrollment services, registrar, academic advising, accounting, the dean of students and human resources in international student related matters, including support for the recruitment and growth of the international student population on campus.
  7. Designs and teaches the SUM 110 Academic Foundations Lab for 7 weeks to first-year students during the fall semester.
  8. Reviews and interprets degree audits, transcripts, placement and other standardized test scores.
  9. Provides support by managing COMPASS flags and connects advisees to resources (i.e. tutoring, counseling, financial aid, accessible education, etc.) to maintain good academic and financial standing.

REQUIREMENTS

Education : BA/BS in related occupational field of study required, Graduate degree preferred

Experience : Minimum of two years of employment experience in higher education. Preference for work with international students or related areas.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Intermittent sitting, standing, stooping, crouching, walking, and occasional moving of light objects. Work is performed in an office.
