About the Role

This role aims to provide cost-estimating services while working closely with other Ideate team members including operations and accounting. The Cost Estimator will strategize with the team regarding each unique project. Ideate will benefit from an accurate cost estimate.

Position Type

This is a full time hybrid position that will require candidates to be at different project sites as needed and at the Vista, CA office.

Role and Responsibilities

• Project opportunities:
• Review the project’s Request for Proposal (RFP), drawings, specifications, and/or Scope of Work (SOW) provided in written and or verbal form.
• Participate in job walks with Ideate management for prospective projects and take notes, photos, and measurements as needed. Upload documentation from the job walk into the appropriate place in the project file.
• Assess potential opportunities with the Ideate management team.
• Confirm information is sufficient to provide cost estimates and timely feedback.
• Develop and provide Rough Order of Magnitude (ROM) cost estimates for preliminary discussions with the Ideate team.
• Project Estimating:
• Organize elements of the project suitable for soliciting bid(s) from subcontractors to perform the project.
• Apply critical thinking to develop expected project costs including labor, materials, subcontractor costs, and our predetermined fees for general conditions, overhead, insurance, and profit.
• Integrate a probable project schedule with the estimate.
• Assist Ideate management in drafting preliminary proposal outlines to accompany the cost estimate.
• Provide Change Estimate support to the Project Manager as requested.
• Compile and log a record of actual costs for labor and materials.
• Job Strategies:
• Maintain knowledge of current and typical industry costs for services and materials required for the performance of projects to which Ideate may provide proposals.
• Develop and maintain relationships with Ideate’s subcontractors and vendors. Ideate Design-Build, Inc. Page 2 of 3
• Submit cost estimate for review, strategy, and feedback from the Director of Construction to produce a final estimate.
• Participate in Ideate pre-construction team meetings. Identify details and assumptions included in the scope of work and project budget to provide support and recommendations.
• Job cost analyses:
• Through periodic site observations, provide feedback and recommendations to assist the Project Manager as needed.
• Address modifications to the scope of work as may arise through discovery, requests by clients, and requirements/recommendations
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
• Mentoring and training Ideate employees.

Qualifications and Skills

• Proficient in mathematics and data analysis.
• Excellent and effective written and verbal communication with clients, consultants, subcontractors, and team members.
• Outstanding interpersonal and customer service skills.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Suite.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to follow through with tasks.
• Be willing to work under deadlines where a variety of tasks will be required of you daily.
• Manage your time effectively by prioritizing and projecting for the future and respecting the time of clients, consultants, subcontractors, and team members.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Self-motivated to develop skills and acquire knowledge, to seek new responsibilities.
• Take responsibility for the outcome of your assignments.
• Professional and personable demeanor capable of maintaining constructive relationships.
• Proven experience as construction estimator.
• Bachelor's degree in a related field, or proven experience as a construction estimator.
• At least 3 years of related experience required.
• Must be able to access and navigate all areas of the construction site in all types of weather and terrain.
• Must be able to lift 15 pounds at a time.
• Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
