- Experience with, or that demonstrates a knowledge of, Active Directory, networking, virtual systems (VMware), scripting, and cybersecurity
- Experience with, or that demonstrates a knowledge of, higher education IT environments
Job Description:
The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECpE) at Iowa State University is seeking a Linux Systems Administrator with the Department’s Electronics and Technology Group. The systems administrator provides Linux support for the academic and research missions of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering’s faculty, staff, and students; Approximately 2,500 users and 500 workstations and servers.
About you: The ideal candidate will have:
- Experience with the administration of RHEL, Linux servers, Ansible, file systems, backup systems, and GPUs
- Experience with, or that demonstrates a knowledge of, Active Directory, networking, virtual systems (VMware), scripting, and cybersecurity
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Demonstrated customer service focus
- Showing initiative with strong self-management skills
- Possessing the ability to work with a variety of clients
- Being organized while managing multiple projects
About the role: Your responsibilities will include:
- Provide support of the IT infrastructure, hardware and software including desktop and laptop computers, servers, backup systems, data storage, printers, network switches, and all other related information technology hardware
- Manage and maintain the servers for the file sharing, licensing, web, and storage needs of the department
- Research, evaluate, and recommend new technologies
- Utilize enterprise computer management systems in the automation of build and upgrade processes
- Assist with the configuration and management of the Department’s VMware virtualization infrastructure
- Assist faculty and students with the creation of Windows and Linux VMs used for a variety of academic, research, and administrative functions
- Support the Department and College VDI pools
- Assist researchers in areas like A.I. and machine learning by recommending, configuring, and maintaining GPU servers/hardware
