DESIGN ENGINEER, Mechanical
Perform standard engineering assignments, which are of moderate to complex technical requirements in the design and manufacturing of automotive OEM service tools.
- Perform moderate to complex technical tasks through the application of engineering principles and practices.
- Interface with customers in order to identify needs for new tool designs.
- Generate and document new tool designs from concept, to prototype, to manufacturing and packaging for end use.
- Gather tool requirements and application information.
- Develop tooling concepts and solutions.
- Develop tool mock-ups, prototypes (e.g. 3D printing).
- Coordinate with machine shops and other suppliers for prototype fabrication.
- Test and validate tools on vehicles or vehicle subsystems.
- Document legacy tools where existing documentation is deficient.
- Ensure completion of assigned tasks within budget, time, and cost constraints.
- Identify and recommend opportunities for product improvements and cost savings.
- Provide technical counsel and assistance to less experienced team members.
- Other miscellaneous duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or electrical engineering.
- Focused technical knowledge, usually acquired by a minimum of 2-3+ years automotive related experience.
- Experience with automotive OEM service and diagnostic tools is a plus.
- Hands-on Automotive assembly or repair experience preferred.
- 3D & 2D CAD proficiency is preferred (Autodesk Inventor).
- Experience interpreting and applying GD&T principals.
- Understanding of engineering principles, machining, injection molding.
- Analysis and problem solving skills.
- Good communication, organization, and time management skills.
- Function well as a motivated and contributing team member.
