Job description

Duties

Operate multiple types of steam presses, such as 54-inch hot head press and a mushroom press, in ironing various articles of general apparel such as nurse's uniforms, shirts, trousers, coats, cook/medical uniforms, Battle Dress Uniforms (BDU), suits, military dress uniforms, etc.


Select work based on delivery dates, determine if the garment should be hand or machine pressed, and select the appropriate presses, lays and sequences for each garment.


Remove shirt from sleeves form, puts on hangers or folds shirt on finishing and folding table.


Inspect shirts for missing buttons, small rips, and tears, and lays shirts requiring repair aside for seamstress.


Operate a single lay and triple head trouser pressing unit in pressing all types of trousers.

QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:


1. Ability to be reliable and dependable as a laundry worker. (screen-out)


2. Ability to handle weights and do manual tasks associated with the laundry, dry cleaning/pressing trade.


3. Ability to follow oral and written directions to perform tasks associated with the laundry, dry cleaning/pressing trade.


4. Ability to work with others in a laundry/dry clean operation.


5. Skill in demonstrating dexterity and safety associated with the Laundry trade.



PHYSICAL EFFORT: Work requires continuous standing and walking on concrete floors and frequent moving and bending. Most tasks require quick hand and arm movements. Continually handles weights up to 25 pounds such as bundles of laundry; occasionally may lift items up to 50 pounds.



WORKING CONDITIONS: Works in an extremely noisy and usually hot and humid environment. Work in the receiving area may involve exposure to cold weather. Is exposed to the possibility of cuts and bruises from carts or machinery. Exposed to more serious injury from dropping sling loads, back strains and falls on slippery floors.



PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.



VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
