Job description
Candle Media is seeking an experienced and versatile Vice President, Business & Legal Affairs to join our team. This individual will handle a diverse range of business & legal affairs matters related to the development, production, co-production, licensing, and exploitation of unscripted and scripted programming (film and series) for Candle Media’s live action divisions, including Candle True Stories, Exile Content and Faraway Road. You’lll be expected to be an operational leader on high-level deals and projects and handle a heavy volume of development, production and delivery tactical matters.You will also serve as a subject matter expert providing advice and counsel to senior company executives, executive producers, and other senior program executives on all business affairs matters and strategy.
What You’ll Do:
- Responsible for all business and legal matters during development, production and delivery of original content, including deal structuring, evaluating rights, managing risk across a broad range of development and production-related topics
- Draft, negotiate, review, analyze and interpret a variety of agreements including attachment, production services, licenses, co-productions, rights, talent, producer, director, and other production agreements in an accurate and timely manner
- Provide well-timed and thoughtful legal advice on potential risks and issues to internal business, production and creative partners; propose practical, responsive solutions.
- Liaise with internal business and creative clients, as well as business & legal affairs department contacts and outside counterparties (e.g., talent attorneys and agents, production company counsel)
- Assist in creating, updating, analyzing, and managing forms and legal documents
Requirements
- Law degree
- JD and member of a state bar in good standing
- 10+ years entertainment, media/technology, intellectual property, or other relevant subject matter expertise
- Superior business and legal skills, including excellent drafting, negotiating, analytical, and strategic thinking ability
- Flexible, creative thinker with ability to quickly develop new areas of expertise as business needs evolve
- Sound business judgment and calm demeanor under pressure, while managing high volume of wide-ranging matters
- Ability to work independently and interact with legal and business personnel of all levels
- Outstanding analytic, communication (oral and written), organizational, and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated capacity to proactively identify, prioritize, and resolve legal issues quickly and effectively
- Collaborative, team-oriented attitude
- Experience with startups, a plus
Benefits
The base salary range for this role is between $180,000-220,000
