Job description

The Role:
Moderna is seeking a highly motivated bioinformatician with experience in mass-spectrometry based immunopeptidomics and proteogenomics to join our highly collaborative, multi-disciplinary, and fast-paced team. The primary focus of this position is to apply bioinformatics tools and establish computational pipelines for mass spectrometry data analyses and integration with other data modalities (genomics, transcriptomics). The successful candidate will work closely with computational biologists, immunologists, and translational biologists in Oncology Research to support target discover, translational research, and clinical development.

Here’s What You Will Do:
Utilize and develop bioinformatics solutions for the analysis of large-scale mass spectrometry experiments (DDA and DIA), focusing on the identification and quantification of MHC-bound peptides (immunopeptidomics).

Explore, evaluate, and analyze external (e.g. PRIDE) and internal immunopeptidomics and immunogenomics datasets to support therapeutic target discovery and validation

Interpret complex datasets to drive biologically relevant findings in the context of immunopeptidomics

Collaborate closely with cross-functional research teams to design experiments and refine data acquisition strategies for improved data quality

Maintain detailed documentation of data analysis methods and results

Participate in team meetings and present findings

Stay abreast of the latest developments in mass spectrometry data analysis and bioinformatics approaches.

Here’s What You’ll Bring to the Table:
Master's degree + 3 years of experience in Biochemistry, Chemistry, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, or a related field. PhD degree is a plus

Rigorous understanding of mass spectrometry concepts and techniques, including the principles and application of data-dependent acquisition (DDA) and data-independent Acquisition (DIA) methods

Previous hands-on experience with mass spectrometry data analysis software, especially when applied to immunopeptidomics, and the familiarity with the role of MHC molecules in antigen presentation

Experience with RNA-seq and WES data

Strong coding skills in Python and/or R

Experience with high performance cloud computing such as the AWS cloud computing platform

Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills

Ability to work independently as well as part of a collaborative research team.
