Job description

Job Summary:

The Ophthalmology Surgical Technician for Lakeview Surgery Center, an affiliate of Prism Vision Group, will assist the surgeon during all operative and invasive procedures. Assures the Operating Room is adequately prepared for surgical procedures with all needed equipment, instruments and supplies. Please note that this job is day shift, no on-call or weekends, no major holidays.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

• Must be available to work every Monday, then switch to every Friday.
• Cleans/dusts all flat surfaces prior to the first case of the day.
• Prepares the operating room in a timely and efficient manner with all instruments, sutures, supplies, and equipment necessary for each individual procedure.
• Prepares the room within a reasonable time frame in order to ensure timely starts.
• Checks all equipment pre-operatively to ensure functionality.
• Maintains an orderly and sterile back table for the purpose of efficiency and follows physician preference for set-up.
• Assists in positioning, prepping, and draping of patients for the surgical procedure.
• Provides patient with explanation and verbal reassurance, as necessary.
• Anticipates needs of physician during the intraoperative phase and adapts to changes during the procedure.
• Carries out aseptic technique throughout the surgical procedure and maintains a safe environment for the patient and surgical team.
• Demonstrates competence and care in specimen handling.
• Maintains responsibility for the care of surgical instruments and adheres to guidelines on transport from OR to decontamination room.
• Cleans and prepares room between procedures and after the last case of the day
• Restocks supplies and equipment.
• Picks all supplies and instruments for the day’s cases in advance of the date of service to ensure availability.
• Understands procedures for sterilization and can verbalize how to validate sterility.
• Demonstrates knowledge and skills to function in sterile processing with regard to cleaning, wrapping and sterilizing instruments.
• Adheres to all policies and procedures of the center.
• Knowledge of Privacy Practices & Patient Bill of Rights.
• Maintains knowledge of Infection Control & OSHA standards of practice.
• Other duties as assigned to include inventory/expiration/validation/stocking.

Non-Essential Job Functions:

Able to perform any reasonable work request that falls within the qualifications but not specifically described.

Qualification/Certifications/Licenses:

• Must be available to work Mondays, then possibly switch to Fridays
• Must be detail oriented and well organized to work in a fast-paced environment
• Surgical Technology experience required
• Experience scrubbing ophthalmology cataract and glaucoma procedures required; Experience with cornea and retina procedures preferred.
• Current certification as a Surgical Technologist preferred
• BLS Certification is required
• Sterile processing experience is preferred
