Job description

The Peabody Essex Museum is currently seeking a highly motivated Seasonal Groundskeeper to join our Gardens and Grounds team. The Museum has a varied and dynamic campus, stretching from 17th century through the 21st century. The qualified candidate will work as part of a team, providing stewardship to 22 historic properties and many modern gardens and green spaces.

This position is a 6 month, 35 hours per week role from April to October reporting to the Head Gardener.

This hands-on position performs a variety of preservation, maintenance and improvements to outdoor natural environments, gardens and landscapes throughout the museum campus. The successful candidate must be resourceful, able to work independently and adjust easily to changing priorities.

Job duties include, but are not limited to:

• Perform landscaping duties including planting, watering, weeding, trimming, pruning and soil improvements of gardens and landscapes
• Monitor and maintain plant health to ensure it meets specific requirements and expectations set out by Head Gardener
• Work with a variety of basic landscape hand tools such as shovels, rakes, hand pruners, loppers, hedge shears and soil knives.
• Daily lawn care including watering, raking and seeding as necessary
• Ensure a safe environment for museum patrons and staff by adhering to safety and health regulations

A High School Diploma or equivalent, and two or more years of proven experience in a similar role is required.
