Department Information

The Department of Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences (SLHS) is an important department in the College of Arts and Sciences (the College). We serve students and the community by advancing innovative basic and applied research in communication sciences and disorders for the purpose of knowledge acquisition, student education, professional training, and clinical practice.

We offer educational experiences at the undergraduate and graduate levels. 7 of our faculty are Deaf and teach ASL at the undergraduate level. Many of our other faculty are clinicians in the areas of audiology and speech-language pathology, and many hold research PhDs.

Job Summary

The Indiana University Department of Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences invites applications for a 12-month, part-time Preschool Teacher. The program focuses on meeting the needs of children with speech and language impairments and typically developing children, including children learning English as a second language.

Department-Specific Responsibilities
  • Organizes classroom and educational materials.
  • Plans and implements of classroom curriculum.
  • Assists graduate students in how to carry out communication intervention objectives in the classroom.
  • Collaborates with clinical faculty and graduate students as a member of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Disseminates parent education materials.
  • Writes progress reports 2 of the 3 semesters.
  • Communicates with other agencies serving the children and their families.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

Required
  • Bachelor's degree
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES

Preferred
  • Certified teacher with an endorsement in Early Childhood Education or Special Education
SKILLS

Required
  • Ability to maintain confidential information
Additional Information

Applications will be reviewed in order of receipt with priority given to those received by March 15, 2024.

Preference will be given to candidates with experience teaching children with special needs or in early childhood education.

$30.00 per hour

Work Hours

This position entails working 20-24 hours per week as an hourly classroom teacher in a unique language-based preschool program.
